Rancorous Researcher

Rancorous Researcher is a 5 part mission chain issued by Distribution division Agents. The chain consists of a Courier and 4 Encounter missions. While they are classed as Encounter there is no combat, except for destroying an unguarded structure.

Mission briefing

My stupid lab assistant has managed to trigger the security protocols in one of my research areas, and now he's stuck in there. He's just lucky he managed to get off a brief call for help, because as it happens, the lockdown procedure includes jamming all long-distance communications. I need you to go pick up one of my data chips. I'm storing them at another station; I'll let them know to leave one in your hangar. I can explain more after you bring it to me.

Mission briefing

Something just came up that's right up your alley. You still have that device I gave you, right? Make sure it's in your cargohold before you head out after my lab assistant. I've loaded a program that will initiate my security's stand-down sequence as soon as you get close enough. All you have to do is approach the trapped ship-- my device will take care of the rest. Don't go shooting anything! I've got sensitive equipment in there.

Approach "Trapped Lab Assistant". De-spawns when mission completed.

Objective	Approach every beacon in the sequence with the Device in your cargohold to collect the data for your agent.
Extra	Need to have "Device" from Part 1 in cargohold.

Mission briefing

Ah, yes. Well, I've reset the password, but the fact remains: I don't trust whatshisname anymore. I'd like you to go collect my data from the area where you found my former assistant. You're on the system's allowed list, so you should be fine. There are a series of cloaked beacons in the area, which contain devices for collecting and recording data. They are also capable of transmitting the data, but only over a very short range. You'll need to get in close to each beacon. Once you've gotten close enough, my device will collect the transmission and the next beacon will decloak.

Note: You must have Large Collidable Structure selected in the Overview to see the Beacon. You will find it listed under Entity - not Celestial.

Approach the 5 beacons in order. The next one will appear once you are close to the current one.

Remark: Sometimes, even when the "Device" is inside the cargohold, the opportunities overview may present a tooltip saying that you need the "Device" on your cargohold, If you indeed have the device you may ignore the tooltip and approach the 5 beacons in order.

When approaching the last beacon:

Mission briefing
Ah, yes, well. The data you brought me proved very interesting. Now I need you to go collect the physical samples. Again, they're in the same location. I've left them in a container with very little shielding to observe the effects of exposure to the peculiar conditions of the area over time. Pick them up and bring them back to me; the faster, the better.

Gather sample out of cargo container. Container is 50km from warp in point, so bring a fast ship.

Objective	Blow up the Center for Scientific Advancement.

Mission briefing

Congratulations? Congratulations? Those short-sighted fools at the Center for Scientific Advancement have no idea what they've done! To dismiss my contributions to the furtherance of human knowledge with a mere honorable mention is an insult! An insult! Well, we'll show them, won't we? Go blow up the old farts' convention! You'll find a large container of explosives right next to the facility. I'd intended to make a gift of them-- my own new design, very strong-- when I accepted my rightful prize. It seems fitting to use them as the agent of destruction for those too blind to see the brilliance right before their eyes.

There are no enemies to fight back. Target the container of explosives. The container will cause 250 damage to ships and drones upon explosion, so stay as far away as possible.

While the job is to destroy the Center for Scientific Advancement it is not to be attacked directly. The center is destroyed by shooting the Large Container of Explosives. The resulting explosion will take out most of the structures.
