We've narrowed it down to a listening post nearby. According to their latest reports, logistics say the post had been requesting more replacement parts than usual. Make of that what you will. The acceleration gate is not locked. You can proceed to the next pocket without killing the drones.

When you are about 30 km from the acceleration gate a group of drones will warp in.
