Mission briefing

We had a team of people doing mining work for us in one of our harvester outposts. It's a thankless and hazardous job, eons away from the safe mining you ship pilots get to engage in. The harvesting equipment they have to use is incredibly dangerous in untrained hands and requires both physical strength and endurance, particularly for the length of time these people have to work. I daren't even think of the accidents that might have occurred had the Minecore harvesters not taken it on themselves to ease their working days a bit with some innocent entertainment. It breaks up the monotony somewhat, so that one's focus on the mining laser won't accidentally slip, leaving some poor soul plastered all over the nearby asteroids. The Minecore harvesters aren't allowed to have any signals in their suits apart from the ones required to run their equipment. All they have is closed communication channels. So a few began telling jokes, and some of them shared stories from past work, and eventually it turned out that one or two of them, embarrassed though they were at first, could even carry a tune. There is now a core troupe of harvesters who have dedicated themselves to keeping up their coworkers' spirits, maintaining a steady stream of radio talk all through the day. These are men whose only thoughts were how long it was until the end of their shift and how much they were going to drink when they got back to their quarters, and now for the first time they all have something to look forward to. Except that their workplace is now under siege by rogue drones, and the company apparently refuses to waste manpower rescuing 'expendable resources'. If these people die, the tradition dies with them, and the entire workforce slides back into old, ugly habits. I cannot let that happen, no matter what the company thinks. I want you to go in there and get them.

Mission briefing

Here is a mission suited for someone of your caliber. Thank you for your task. I know not everyone cares about company morale, but with these poor people, distraction and boredom can kill. I'm sure the whole mess will give them plenty to talk about when they feel up to returning to work. Unfortunately, we have a new problem. Not everyone feels so philanthropical toward their fellow man, even under circumstances where you'd think that people would stick together and help one another out. Now that you've cleared the last of the Minecore harvesters out of the area, the scavengers arrive. I have reason to believe that these rogue harvesters, unaffiliated with Minecore, have moved in and are proceeding to rob us of our equipment. These people undoubtedly intend to set up a business of their own, and plan to use our property as a starting point. The next step will certainly be attempts to headhunt our own employees, with extravagant offers of better working conditions, higher pay, more benefits and time off. Total and utter lies, all of it. Rogue operators pay even less, and if you desert the company to go work for them, you might as well have placed yourself in indentured servitude. I am not letting that happen to my people, especially now that they've built so much camaraderie and trust. I want you to return to the outpost, find these cowardly harvesters and destroy them, and retrieve our mining equipment. Declining a mission from a particular agent more than once every 4 hours may result in a loss of standing with that agent, except in the case of special missions that clearly state otherwise in their description.
