Overview
This group contains all skills tied to scanning: probe scanning, the hacking mini-game, and survey skills. Most of the skills in this group are relevant to exploration.

Archaeology
Proficiency at identifying and analyzing ancient artifacts. Required skill for the use of Relic Analyzer modules. Gives +10 Virus Coherence per level.

Notes: | If you run a lot of Relic sites, training this to from IV to V gives you a big boost, because you get the bonus from the skill, and also the bonuses from being able to use a Relic Analyzer II. |
Astrometric Acquisition
Skill at the advanced operation of long range scanners. 5% reduction in scan probe scan time per level.

Notes: | Currently the least useful of the three Astrometric skills used for exploration, and a holdover from previous versions of scanning. Scan times are already very short, so you may not want to train this skill at all past what is required by other skills or items. It can be more important for combat probing, when every split second reduction in the time that your probes might be visible on a target's directional scanner counts. |
Astrometric Pinpointing
Greater accuracy in hunting down targets found through scanning. Reduces maximum scan deviation by 5% per level.

Notes: | A core skill for this group. Since each level comes with three different bonuses, level IV is useful for all kinds of probing and level V is desirable for any dedicated explorers. |
Hacking
Proficiency at breaking into guarded computer systems. Required skill for the use of Data Analyzer modules. Gives +10 Virus Coherence per level.

Survey
Skill at operating ship, cargo and survey scanners. 5% improvement per level in the scan speeds of those module types.
