EVE University Myths
|This page is specific to EVE University. Other corporations or groups in the game may operate differently.|
For a summary of EVE University's rules and code of conduct, see EVE University Rules.
EVE University has been around for over 16 years, and our rules and policies - as well as the way we pursue wars - have changed a lot in that time. This page is designed to help dispel some commonly-held myths that many people - unistas, alumni and many non-members - have about E-UNI.
Our current EVE University Rules can be summarised thusly:
- Be respectful to other capsuleers
- Don't troll or be abusive
- No stealing or scamming
- NBSI in low, null and WH space, NRDS in hisec (full Rules of Engagement are here)
Myths about EVE University
Without further ado, here are some common "facts" spouted concerning E-UNI. These are all false.
E-UNI don't let you undock during wars!
Our rules do not change in the slightest in war-time (which is quite a lot of the time). We do not have any rules that forbids undocking in times of war. Instead, we have a guideline about Wartime Operation in EVE University to guide our capsuleers how to act in wartime and to increase their survival rate and/or avoid destruction from a wartarget. We put a high emphasis on this guideline to prevent or at least to minimize unnecessary & embrassing losses, but capsuleers are free to follow this guideline or not.
Please note that, during a PvP Operation & Response Fleet, temporary restrictions (may include preventing non doctrine or all non-fleet ships to undock) may be implemented to keep the operational security and to increase the fleet success rate. But this restrictions are removed once the operations is over.
You can only fly what the management allows you to fly!
This was once technically correct, as you couldn't fly supercapitals without specific authorization from a director. This restriction has since been lifted, and you can fly whatever you want. You want to take an AT prize ship with officer fittings out? Sure thing! The only thing we ask, is if you are in a fleet you fly what the FC is asking for.
It takes like a month to get into E-UNI!
While this may have once been the case, the process is now much shorter. All we require is a short application and an ESI for the account you are applying on and any other characters you may want added in the future to join Eve Uni or to add to our alt corp. We will then review your application and you will be directly accepted in or have a short interview with one of our Intake Officers. The vast majority of applications are dealt with within a few days of receipt.
E-UNI teach you nothing but hisec carebearing!
Although many of our members do play EVE in hisec, we also have communities in lowsec, nullsec and wormhole space. Our members frequently roam these lawless areas looking for fights, or run scheduled doctrine fleets, or gank poor neutral industrials for giggles. It isn't even unheard of for us to be among the top-killing groups in wormholes in a given week.
We run suicide ganking classes (although actual suicide ganking isn't allowed in most cases because we are NRDS in High-Sec), solo PvP classes, even CODE. have been known to come and talk to our students about what they do in EVE.
You aren't even allowed in sov null!
You may enter sovereign null as much as you like, whether just looking around or looking for fights. There is only one exception: don't get involved in major structure fights (we would like to stay as neutral as possible, politically speaking).
