E-UNI Emblem.png This page is specific to EVE University. Other corporations or groups in the game may operate differently.
For a summary of EVE University's rules and code of conduct, see EVE University Rules.

Within EVE University we have several members who either stream their gameplay, or record it for publishing later. While this is permitted if certain conditions are met, we have some rules to try and maintain the privacy of our members and operational security of EVE University fleets. Please note that in addition to these rules, some communities may have specific rules regarding streaming or video publishing of events within their purview.

Streaming and recording

Streaming is transmitting video or audio in real time or near real time. This is commonly done using Twitch.pngTwitch. A more comprehensive overview on how to stream EVE Online using Twitch can be found in our Recording and Streaming Guide. EVE University members are welcome to use the two Streaming Lounges within our Discord server for streaming to other members using Discord's built-in functionality. These channels can be used to stream anything EVE or non-EVE related. Multiple streams can be conducted within these channels.

Furthermore, it is possible to record video and audio of EVE gameplay or classes for use and dissemination after the fact, for example on YouTube. This includes making a video stream recording available after a stream has finished.

There is a plethora of reasons for why people may want to stream or record their gameplay or a class. It allows interaction with the wider EVE Online community, allows one to document fun or challenging content or events for later remembrance, allows a user to learn from any mistakes by analyzing PvP or PvE fleets, and much more. However, to ensure the privacy of our members and the operational security of our operations, a number of conditions have to be met to stream or record events or classes in an EVE University context.

Operational security

By default, streaming fleets and other operations in EVE University is not allowed. The reason for this is it adds increased risk to the fleet. Viewers may engage in "stream sniping" which means they use the stream to find the streamer's location in game and kill them. Some fleet members may not want to take this risk, or may want to fly a cheaper ship in view of the increased risk. If the fleet is of strategic importance to EVE University's operations, streaming could endanger the success of this operation and cost the University significant amounts of ISK and effort.

Privacy

Some members of the fleet may not be comfortable having their voice, their in-game identity, or their gameplay made publicly available and shared to the wider world. In the case of classes, the teacher may not be comfortable having their teaching materials be shared beyond their purview, or being made to feel as if they now have a responsibility to take and answer questions beyond the duration of their class. Furthermore, they may feel as if they are now required to ensure the completeness and accuracy of their class' information through time.

Streaming and recording rules

Streaming fleets and operations in EVE University is allowed if the streamer:

  • Gets prior permission from the fleet commander to stream the fleet.
  • Ensures that members are aware before joining the fleet (e.g. in prior announcements and advertisements) that it will be streamed. Streaming of voice communications (such as Mumble) requires consent from every fleet member present. There may be fleet members who are not comfortable with their voice being shared to the wider world.
  • Obscures any sensitive information on the stream, including corporation and fleet chat channels. Stream overlays for obfuscation purposes are available from our Recording and Streaming Guide.
  • Streamers may be asked to apply a delay to their streams for operational security reasons. The timing of any stream delay is at the discretion of the fleet commander.

Recording a fleet, operation or class (for your own use and review, or further dissemination) is permitted, however this is only allowed provided the player(s) recording and publishing the fleet:

  • Obtains the fleet commander's/class teacher's consent to the recording of the fleet or class.
  • Obtains the fleet commander's/class teacher's consent to the recording being published, if they intend to do so.
  • Obtains the consent of all fleet members/class attendees if voice communications (such as Mumble) are recorded and published. There may be fleet members/class attendees who are not comfortable with their voice being saved or shared to the wider world.
  • Obscures any sensitive information on the recording, including corporation and fleet chat channels.
