This page lists abbreviations and terms commonly used in EVE Online, aimed at new players and those unfamiliar with the terminology. Most of the terms listed here are universal across all of EVE players, but some may be relatively specialized to EVE University and may mean something slightly different to other corporations. If any of the terminology is unclear be sure to ask in-game or on the forums for more clarification.

Note: Bolded abbreviations have limited recognition across EVE, mostly due to being used specifically within EVE University or other corporations.

Aggro

Adaptive Invulnerability Field, deprecated term for Multispectrum Shield Hardener (see tanking).
Alfa
Alternate spelling of Alpha
Align
Accelerating towards an object in preparation for warp
Aligned
The act of moving towards a warpable object at a minimum speed of 75% ready to warp to said object at a moment's notice (see alignment for more information).
Alliance
A group of Corporations
Alpha
Short for the Alpha clone state or Alpha strike
Alpha Strike
The amount of damage dealt in a single volley from firing all weapons simultaneously. Sometimes sufficient to destroy a target before it can repair the damage.
AMC
Averon Mining Campus (originally Amarr Mining Campus), former EVE University Campus (rolled into Main Community)
Anchor
Anchors lead fleets by manually piloting and fleet members use commands to follow them. Multiple anchors may exist for specific roles, e.g. DPS, Logi, EWAR.
Ancil
Ancillary Armor Repairer or Ancillary Shield Repairer (see Tanking)

ASB

AU
Astronomical Unit, a unit of distance. 1 AU is the distance from the Sun to the Earth: 149,597,871 km.
AUR
Aurum, replaced by PLEX
Awox
To attack and destroy the ship of a pilot in the same player-run corporation without warning. (Derived from the name of the first widely known EVE pilot accused of such behavior)
AWU

Bait
To expose a seemingly easy target in order to lure an enemy into committing to an engagement (see Baiting)
Baltec
Ship doctrine: 425mm Railgun, dual 1600mm Armor Plate, MWD Megathron doctrine (Named after capsuleer baltec1, famous for his off-doctrine use of Megathrons, though not this particular fit)
BCS
Ballistic Control System (previously known as Ballistic Control Unit; see Missile damage)
BCU
Ballistic Control Unit (now called Ballistic Control System; see Missile damage)
Bearing
Biomass
To permanently delete a character (see Biomassing)
Blap
To destroy a ship suddenly or quickly
Bling
Expensive. Typically used to refer to expensive Faction, Deadspace, or Officer modules ("bling modules"), ships that are fit with said modules ("blingy ship"), or a clone with expensive implants ("bling pod" or "bling head").
Blob
A large fleet (or in some cases, any fleet larger than the speaker's). Generally used as a pejorative term, suggesting that members of that fleet are relying on numbers to win. May also be referred to as a "zerg". May also be used as a verb, for the act of winning a fight through numbers.
Bloodlines
A character's familial ancestry. There are three different bloodlines to choose from during character creation for each empire.
Blue
A pilot, corporation, or alliance with positive standings. (see Rules of Engagement)
Blue Loot
Sleeper loot gotten from Sleeper wrecks and data sites. Can be sold to NPCs for ISK. Is called blue loot because of the blue icons.
BM

Bob
Bob is a player-invented deity that supposedly holds sway over wormholes and J-space.
boosh
To use a Micro Jump Field Generator to displace (part of) a fleet. See Command Destroyers.
Booster
  1. Medical boosters are drugs that increase a pilots' combat or skill-training attributes for a short time.
  2. A ship used to provide Command Bursts to their fleet
  3. Sensor boosters, modules used to increase a ship's scan resolution and/or targeting range
  4. Shield boosters, modules used to restore a ship's shield hit points
  5. Capacitor boosters, modules used to restore a ship's capacitor using cap booster charges
Boson
Bosonic Field Generator, a large cone AoE superweapon usable by titans. Notable for its past ability to decimate subcapitals before a nerf in 2019
Bounce
To warp to a nearby celestial, player, or bookmark and back at a closer range to avoid having to slow-boat to a target or destination.
Bounty
  1. (Deprecated mechanic) Player bounties. Which is a bounty placed on one player, from another player.
  2. NPC bounties. These are placed by CONCORD and can be gotten by killing the NPC ship.
BPC
Blueprint Copy (see Blueprints)
BPO
Blueprint Original (see Blueprints)
BR
  1. Blockade Runner, a class of fast industrial ships designed to carry moderate quantities of carry cargo through dangerous space.
  2. Battle Report, a list of ships and pilots involved and destroyed in a specific battle. Usually generated by outside websites such as ZKillboard.
Bracket
Visual indicators or icons displayed in space that represent various objects such as ships, stations, stargates, asteroids, drones, and other entities. See Overview for information on brackets in the context of the overview.
Bricked
An extremely unlucky Abyssal roll.
Brick tank
A more emphatic term for Buffer tanking
BS
A common abbreviation for battleships.
Bubble
Warp disruption field, a spherical area of space that prevents ships within it from warping, and forcibly pulls in inbound warping ships. Created by Interdictors, Heavy Interdiction Cruisers, or by deployed Mobile Warp Disruptors
Buff
To increase the stats or effectiveness of something. Opposite of Nerf.
Buffer
A method of tanking relying on having a large amount of hit points.
Bump
The act of (intentionally) colliding with another ship in space, causing both to be pushed away.
Burn
  1. Going fast using a propulsion module. Often used in context of going towards or away from a location. Contrast with slow-boat.
  2. To quickly make multiple jumps in order to reach a destination.
BYOC
Bring Your Own Can, a mining fleet operation where you only receive boosts to mining, and you get to choose what you do with the ore. (see AMC) (limited usage to some mining corps and EVE University)
BYOM
Bring Your Own Minerals (within EVE University)

C

Carebear
A contextually derogatory or affectionate term for players or pursuits which are not PvP-centric.
Camp
To hold location at a specific point waiting for targets, usually at a stargate or station.
Cap

Capchain
"Capacitor chain", the practice of multiple Logistics Cruisers or battleships sending each other one or more Remote Capacitor Transmitters, to provide each other with infinite capacitor energy (by the transmitters restoring their target more capacitor than they cost to activate). See Logistics#Remote Capacitor Transfer
Cap Stable
When a ship recharges capacitor faster than its modules consume it, allowing all modules to remain active indefinitely.
Capsule
An egg-shaped apparatus used by pilots to interface with a ship. Ejected and used as an escape pod in case of ship destruction. A slow and weak vessel.
Capsuleer
In-game term for player characters. Humans who pilot ships through the use of a capsule and have been rendered effectively immortal through cloning technology.
Capital
CCC
Capacitor Control Circuit (see Rigs)
Ceptor
Chemo
A group of CovOps cloak, smartbomb-fit Strategic Cruisers used to kill fleets of small ships
Chokepoint
Type of system or location that serves as a critical passageway or junction between different areas of space.
Clip
The ammo capacity of a rapid missile launcher; A period where a rapid missile launcher-equipped ship can do damage before having to undergo a long reload.
CLORP
Cloak+Warp. What ships who can warp cloaked should be doing always.
CNR
Raven Navy Issue (derived from previous name: Caldari Navy Raven)
CNS
Scorpion Navy Issue (derived from previous name: Caldari Navy Scorpion)
Coalition
A group of alliances formed through mutual agreement. There are no in-game mechanics to represent such groups though members usually have blue standings among themselves.
Cold
See Hot
Comp
Short for "fleet composition", and used when quickly describing the makeup of a fleet.
Concorded
Destroyed by CONCORD
Concordokken
The destruction of a ship by CONCORD
Content
  1. As EVE is an extremely wide-open sandbox with little story or other enforced activities provided by the developers, players must often come up with their own objectives and activities ('Content') to fill their game time with.
  2. PVP fights

In-game direct conversation, initiated by selecting "Start Conversation" from the right-click menu.
CovOps

Crowbar
An ECM ship for prying a more valuable ship out of a sticky situation (see Crowbar and Griffin)
CSAA
Capital Ship Assembly Array (see Player-owned starbases)
CSPA
CONCORD Spam Prevention Act.
A 'CSPA charge' is an amount of ISK which can be levied on communications such as conversations and mail, acting as a deterrent to spam. CSPA is managed via the EVE Mail settings.
Crit
A Wormhole which "has been critically disrupted [...] and is on the verge of collapse"
CTA
Short for "Call to Arms". An announcement of an alliance- or coalition-wide combat operation.
Curse of BWF
A widely held belief that any corporation or alliance which holds the BWF-ZZ system in the Geminate region will shortly failcascade.
Customs Office
An orbital structure used to import and export goods to and from planets. (see Planetary Industry)
Cwizzing
Using the Point Defense System of a Citadel. (Derived from the real-life acronym 'CIWS')
Cyno
  1. n. Cynosural field (see Jump drives)
  2. v. To use a cynosural field to jump to a target cynosural beacon

D

Damage Dealer
A ship whose primary role in a fleet is to deal damage.
Damp
Sensor dampening
DC
  1. Damage Control (previously known as Damage Control Unit; see Tanking)
  2. Disconnect, referring to players being forcibly ejected from the game servers
DCU
  1. Drone Control Unit, a now-defunct module that allowed carriers and supercarriers to control one additional drone. Removed in Citadel patch.
  2. Damage Control Unit (now called Damage Control; see Tanking)
DDA
Drone Damage Amplifier. (see Drones)
DED
Directive Enforcement Department. A division of CONCORD Assembly.
Deadspace
Pockets of space typically accessed via acceleration gate which cannot be entered via normal warp. Commonly used for missions and complexes.
Deathcloning
Self destructing your pod to travel to your home station.
Depot
Dessie/Dessi/Dessy
Desto
Destination.
DGC
Defensive gate camp (See Gate camps.)
Dictor
Interdictor (ship class).
Disco
A ship fitting which uses a large number of smartbombs, typically at least one of each damage type. Named for the graphical effects seen when they are fired.
Discovery Scanner
Doctrine
A monolithic fleet concept, usually consisting of one or two ship fittings. Allows the FC to make decisions based on a known performance profile.
Domi
Dominix (ship).
Doorstop
Any ship fitted and/or used specifically to collapse a wormhole immediately upon jumping through the wormhole. The wormhole is typically weakened beforehand by other ships jumping back-and-forth through the wormhole until the wormhole stability becomes critical. See Wormholes § Mass
DPS
  1. Damage per second.
  2. Damage Dealer (when discussing fleet compositions)
Dread
Dread bomb
The act of jumping a large number of insured dreadnoughts into a fight in order to quickly destroy a group of enemy capital ships. The dreadnoughts used in a dread bomb often do not survive; and so their job is to do as much damage as possible during their short lifespan.
Drop
  1. The act of jumping one or more (usually) capital ships on a target, to quickly destroy it.
  2. A booster used to improve turret tracking.
Drone boat
A ship which relies heavily on Drones for combat, like the Ishtar or Dominix.
Dronebunny
A ship in a fleet with a fast lock time, which other ships in the fleet order their drones to Assist, so that all drones in the fleet can rapidly and cohesively switch targets regardless of what their owners are doing.
DScan
Directional Scan, which lets you see ships in space over long range or in specific directions.

EANM
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane, the former name of the Multispectrum Energized Membrane (see Tanking)
ECCM
Electronic Counter-Countermeasures (see Electronic warfare)
EFT
  1. The text format used for exporting, copy-pasting, and sharing fits out of game, and importing fits into the game. Originally created by EVE Fitting Tool, later integrated with the in-game fitting window.
  2. EVE Fitting Tool, a tool dealing with ship fitting that has been abandoned and replaced by PYFA
EHP
Effective Hit Points (see Tanking)
ENAM
Extremely common mis-acronymization of EANM
EOL
Wormhole reaching end of life (less than 4 hours remaining. See Wormholes § Life)
ET
  1. EVE time
  2. Energy Transfer (now called Remote Capacitor Transmitter; see Logistics)
ETA
Estimated time of arrival
Eviction
The act of destroying all the structures in a wormhole system, effectively kicking the residents out their home.

Failcascade
Failure Cascade. The escalating collapse of a corporation or alliance in EVE, either through leadership problems or other issues.
FC
Fleet Commander (see Fleet Command Guide)
FF
Friendly Flash, used to alert friendly players that a wormhole activation (flash) is friendly
Firewalling
A defensive strategy of using Smartbombs to destroy incoming missiles
Flag
An engagement status caused by one or more illegal or semi-illegal activities. (see Timers)
Flashy
Being flagged as a legitimate target, or used as noun to describe a pilot that has been flagged, either by having a security status of -5.0 or below ("permaflashy"), from committing Suspect or Criminal actions, being a war target, or being flagged in a Limited Engagement. See also: Legality Timers.
FiBo
Fighter Bomber, the precursor to Heavy Fighters
Flytrap
An armed POS that has no force field to appear offline to unsuspecting prey
FR
Flashing Red. Criminal flag
Francie Moment
  1. Fitting two warp scramblers to an interceptor then trying to engage bait.
  2. A bait ship letting you escape out of pity
Freeport
  1. A dockable structure owned by a player corporation that has chosen to allow docking to all players.
  2. Freeport Mode, a feature of outposts
Frogs
Slightly derogatory term for Gallente Factional Warfare pilots. See also: Squids.

G

Gank
To ambush and destroy an enemy, without giving them the chance to fight back.
GANKED
A tag on ZKillboard representing a ship which was killed by multiple pilots who were then immediately killed by CONCORD. See Suicide ganking.
Gate

Gate Green/Gate Red
Terms used by fleet commanders to denote whether a jump gate is clear to jump through or not.
GC
Short for "Good Contest", used when two Incursion Fleets fight over the same Incursion sites for payout.
GCC
Short for "Global Criminal Countdown", an outdated name for the criminal timer.
GF
"Good fight". Usually said in local after a battle.
Gimp
To make a certain setup or attribute ineffective. Extreme version of Nerf.
Godroll
An extremely lucky Abyssal roll
Grid
A discrete section of space generated by the presence of objects in space. (see Grid)
Grid Fu
GSC
Giant Secure Container
Gyro
Gyrostabilizer (see Turret damage)

H

HAM
Heavy Assault Missiles (see Missiles)
Hardpoint
A ship attribute that determines the number of missile launchers or turrets that can be fitted
Hard skills
Skills trained by characters (as opposed to soft skills).
HAW
High-Angle Weapons, capital ship weapons designed to engage subcapital targets (see Turrets)
Headshotting
The act of specifically killing the opposing fleet commander(s) during a fight, usually to disrupt the fleet and/or end the fight
Heavy Tackle
A tanky ship, such as a Heavy Interdiction Cruiser, which holds tackle on an enemy ship. This is in contrast to light tackle which are a fast ships with little tank.
Hero Tackle
A ship or pilot who flies in alone to Tackle an enemy ship, hold them until their allies arrive, and usually die taking their target with them
HOC
"Hold on contact", a common movement order in fleets
Hot
  • Microwarp drive on/off, commonly used during Wormhole Rolling, e.g. "come in hot"
  • A module or set of modules which are overheated or not overheated, respectively, e.g. "guns are hot"
HP
Hit points (see Tanking)
HSC
High Sec Campus, former EVE University Campus (rolled into Main Community)
HUD
Heads Up Display

IHUB
Infrastructure Hub (see Sovereignty for Sov Null or Faction Warfare)
Indy
Short for industry or industrial. Haulers used to be named "Industrial" and thus also were referred to as "indies".
Injector
Insta-undock
A method of "safely" undocking from a station by immediately warping to a bookmark directly off of the undock point. (see Bookmarks)
Instadock
A method of safely docking in a station by warping to a bookmark within the station's docking radius.
In Pipe
A message to allies that you have initiated warp, or are already traveling in warp
Invuln
  1. Adaptive Invulnerability Field, the former name of the Multispectrum Shield Hardener (see Tanking).
  2. Any active Shield Hardeners, usually commented as a reminder to turn them on before going into combat. ("Invulns on")
IPH
ISK per hour (also ISK/hr)
IRL
"In real life"
ISK
Inter Stellar Kredits, the in-game currency of EVE Online. (Also the currency code of the Icelandic króna.)
iStab
Inertial Stabilizers (see Propulsion equipment)
Ivy League
Ivy League, the alliance of EVE University

J

J-Space
Either means Wormhole space (referencing the J prefixing all wormhole system names) or "Jove-space" (referencing the area of space where Jovians live)
Jam
The act of using ECM modules to jam the targeting systems of a ship (see Electronic Countermeasures)
Jamyled
To be killed by Drifters, a reference to Jamyl I the Empress of the Amarr Empire. Pronounce it like yam if Amarrian, like jam if Gallentian.
Jetcan
A temporary container created when jettisoning something from a cargo hold. See: Jettison container
JJJ
"Jump, Jump, Jump", a common movement order in fleets
JOC
"Jump on contact", a common movement order in fleets
JS
Jump
The act of moving between two solar systems
Jump Destroyer

K

K-Space
Killboard
A website, usually public, which gathers records of the ship kills and ship losses which happen in EVE. The most well-known killboard is zKillboard.
Kinetic locked
An aspect of certain Caldari ships (like the Drake), which only receive bonus damage for Kinetic Missiles (and not other damage types).
Kitchen Sink
A fleet without a clear unifying doctrine.
Kite

Kiting
Keeping your distance from shorter-ranged enemies, allowing you to damage them without letting them damage you.
Krab
Running PvE content for ISK. Generally used derisively.
Krabbing

KS

LA
Logi Anchor (see Anchor). Their task is usually to keep Logi ships in range of friendly DPS but as far from enemies as possible.
LAR
Large Armor Repairer (see Tanking)
LML
Light Missile Launcher (see Missiles)
Logi

Loot
The contents of a destroyed ship, which are left behind in a container when the ship is destroyed.
Local
The standard chat channel that shows who are in system while in high-sec, low-sec and null-sec. Does not show players in system while in wormholes.
Locust
A group of pilots running missions or moon mining in one large fleet (see Locust fleet)
LSB
Large Shield Booster (see Tanking)
LSC
Low-Sec Campus, former EVE University Campus (rolled into Main Community)
LSE
Large Shield Extender (see Tanking)

MAPC
Micro Auxiliary Power Core (see Fitting ships § Fitting modules)
Macro mining
The illegal use of 3rd party scripts to automate the mining process
MAR
Medium Armor Repairer (see Tanking)
MAR Sniper
Marauder Sniper - (Paladin & Vargur) Type of Ships in fleet doing incursion (example : https://wl.warptome.net/)
MAR DPS
Marauder DPS - (Kronos) Type of Ships in fleet doing incursion (example : https://wl.warptome.net/)
ME
Material Efficiency (see Blueprints)
Merc/Mercenary
A player or corporation that takes contracts to kill, wardec and perform other hostile actions for ISK.
Meta
  1. Meta level (see Techs, Tiers and Meta levels)
  2. To replace a module with a another module of the same type but with a different meta level (see Techs, Tiers and Meta levels)
  3. Common or popular ships, fittings, and doctrines
  4. Examination of a game from an outside perspective
Metagaming
Taking actions beyond the confines of the game universe to gain an advantage.

Magnetic Field Stabilizer (see Turret damage)
Mins
Minerals (see Mining)
MLU
Mining Laser Upgrade (see Mining)
Mods
MSE
Medium Shield Extender (see Tanking)
Multiboxing
Playing with two (or more) characters simultaneously
Multispec

MW
Megawatt, a unit of measurement used to describe a ship's powergrid output (see Fitting Guidelines)
MWD

Nano
Nanofiber Internal Structure (see Propulsion equipment)
Nanogang
A small fleet of ships reliant on speed, evasion, and hit-and-run tactics, rather than numbers or raw damage advantage
NAP
Non Aggression Pact
NBSI
"Not blue, shoot it" (see Corporation diplomacy - Rules of Engagement)
Nerf
To reduce the stats or effectiveness of something. Opposite of Buff. See also: Gimp.
Neut
Energy Neutralizer (see Capacitor warfare)
Newbie
A term used to refer to a newer or less experienced players. Usually used in a neutral manner. See also: Newbro, Noob
Newbro
A term used to refer to a newer or less experienced players. Usually used in a positive, endearing manner. See also: Newbie, Noob

Officer
A rare named pirate NPC that drops some of the most expensive modules.
Omega
The Omega Clone state
Omni Tank
A tank effective against all 4 damage types (see Tanking)
OMW
"On my way"
Ongrid Booster
A deprecated term for a ship using Warfare Links to enhance a fleet, while being with the fleet as opposed to at a safe spot in the system. See Command Bursts for the more modern system.
Offgrid Booster
A deprecated term for a ship using Warfare Links to enhance a fleet, while hiding at a safe spot somewhere in the system. Offgrid Boosters are no longer possible; see Command Bursts for the more modern system.

PAP
Short for ‘Participation Link’. A metric for large organizations to track fleet participation. Formerly required clicking an in-game link before the move to ESI (see CTA).
Painter
Target Painter (see Electronic warfare)
Passive Module
A ship module which does not need to be manually activated. (see Modules)
PDS
  1. Power Diagnostic System (see Fitting Guidelines)
  2. Point Defense System (a module fitted to large Upwell structures)
Pew Pew
Common term for combat, based on the noises made by the weapons.
PG
Power Grid (see Fitting Guidelines)
Picket
A ship placed outside of tactical locations such as gates and stations to watch for enemy activity
Ping
  1. A tactical bookmark placed near a stargate or other point of interest, close enough to be on grid, but far enough that it can be fleet warped to during a fight
  2. Use of an out-of-game message service (e.g. Slack, Discord) to notify others
Pipe
A sequence of systems with only one way in and out on either end, which must be traversed to move between two areas of space. Can be vulnerable to Pipe Bombing.
Piracy
The act of engaging in PvP for profit
PL
Pandemic Legion, a well-known nullsec alliance
PLEX Tanking
Sarcastic term for transporting PLEX through space, usually with a ship not usually used for hauling. Note that because the PLEX Vault can be accessed from anywhere, no pilot should ever need to do this.
Pocket
  1. Alternate term for an area of deadspace
  2. An area of space - usually a Constellation - which only has a single entrance. The Null-Sec Community pocket is the constellation 4Y7-Q as the only entrance is via PC9-AY)
POCO

Ramjag
A Jaguar fit with dual Medium ASBs, MWD, and typically web, scram, and nos. This fit makes for a very fast and durable tackle frigate that can ram into a target (hence the name), at the expense of having very low damage capabilities.
Rat
Hostile NPC. Short for "pirate", although also used because said NPCs tend to be very weak but very numerous (like real life rats).
Ratting
The act of hunting hostile NPCs, usually done to earn ISK. See Ratting
Rage Roll
The act of repeatedly Rolling a static wormhole as fast as possible, to find Content
RCU
Reactor Control Unit (see Fitting Guidelines)
Red
A pilot, corporation, or alliance with terrible standings. (See also Blue)
Red Box
The state of being both targeted and subjected to hostile action by a player or NPC
Red Cycle
To deactivate a ship module mid-cycle so that it will stop at the completion of its current cycle. Commonly used regarding modules with longer cycle times, Marauder Bastion, for example. Also "<module> is red".
Red Loot
Triglavian Survey Databases, looted from the Abyss or Triglavian NPC ships. Can be sold to certain NPC stations for ISK, or can be traded in at DED LP Stores. Nicknamed "Red Loot" because, similar to Blue Loot, it's a loot item, whose icon is red.

Reinforced
A temporary (about 1-4 days) invulnerable state entered by some structures after taking a certain amount of damage, allowing the owners time to form a response fleet.

The automatically scanned overlay that activates upon entering a new solar system or undocking. The Sensor Overlay shows the location of landmarks, bookmarks, and Cosmic Signatures / Anomalies in space. See also: Odyssey.

SKIN
Super Kerr-Induced Nanocoatings, items which apply cosmetic changes (e.g. different colours) to ships.
SKINR
Super Kerr-Induced Nanocoating Resequencer:
  • allows CEO’s, Directors, and Brand Managers to create Nanocoating designs by applying Nanocoating's of their choosing to different areas of Upwell Structures. (EverMark#SKINR)

Slide
The act of taking an Acceleration Gate. Often used in Factional Warfare.
Slow-boat
(also "slowboat") Moving in space at sub-warp velocities
Smack talk
Talking trash, taunting, or annoying people in local chat. University members are expected to steer clear. Jokingly referenced in the error message when under a Session Timer from entering or moving within a Fleet.
Soft skills
Skills learned by players through experience or study, as opposed to hard skills.
Soli
Solitude, a Gallente region characterized by its large highsec island and remoteness from most of highsec space. (Dotlan link)

Spai
Another common way of spelling spy. Spais typically are those who have infiltrated another corporation. Can be thought of as 'Sneaky Player Acquiring Intel (SPAI)'
Spider
A group of pilots in a fleet in which each member independently runs their own missions, with other members doing the same thing. Sharing rewards. (See Spider fleet) (See also Locust)
Spider Tanking
A doctrine that relies on most ships having remote repair capabilities, rather than a dedicated logistics wing
Spiraling
The act of manually approaching a target via a continuously diagonal vector. See Manual Piloting.

Splash
To enter a Wormhole (see Wormhole)
Squids
Slightly derogatory name for Caldari and Amarr Factional Warfare pilots. The term originated from mixing both faction names into "CalAmari". See also: Frogs.
SSE
Small Shield Extender (see Tanking)
SSO
Single Sign-On, a centralized log-in tool CCP provides for both in game, out of game and third party applications.
Stab
Warp Core Stabilizer (see Tackling)
Starburst
When every member of the gang or fleet warps to a different place in the system to hunt someone.
Stargate
Large structure in space which most ships must use to travel between solar systems.
Static
A Wormhole type, present in every wormhole system but specific to the system, which will always immediately re-generate every time it closes
Stront
Strontium Clathrates. Used in POS Warfare, and consumed by Dreadnoughts and Force Auxiliaries.
Stront Check
Attacking a POS to see if it contains Stront. Usually done to annoy the owner.
Super/Supercap
Supercapital ship, usually a supercarrier (or, rarely, a titan).

Tackle
A ship specialized in tackling another, with the intention of keeping the opponent in place.

A method of indicating availability for a given task. If an "x up" for an activity or volunteer role is recommended, pilots interested should simply post "x" in the chat channel indicated, optionally followed by additional info as requested. Most commonly used during fleet form-ups.

Yellow Box
Being targeted by someone, or to target someone, without also being the subject of hostile action.

The Yulai Convention is an RP term for a number of game mechanics and systems within EVE.
