Student Advocates

This article is about the Student Advocate and how the role fits within EVE University and how he serves the general membership.

The role of the Student Advocate is to provide a voice for the student body to the Directorate and Management in a fashion much like EVE's CSM in that they filter through popular issues and concerns bringing forward those that are deemed most important. The Student Advocate also acts as mediator for when those inevitable clashes between members occur. EVE University is both large in numbers and broad in the cultural and nationality scope. When an issue arises it is the goal to bring them to a friendly resolution to allow members to continue enjoying their time in EVE University.

Chief Executive Officer

Laura Karpinski

The CEO is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of EVE University. They ensure that the university’s long-term mission, strategy, and vision are being pursued effectively. The CEO represents the organisation externally, managing high-level relationships with alliances and the wider EVE Online community. They work closely with the leadership team to ensure that all departments align with the university’s core objectives, and they make the final decisions on strategic matters.

Xobekk Gao	Director of Strategy and Resources Focus: Big-picture planning, managing resources, and keeping everything on track. Work closely with the CEO to come up with and roll out long-term strategies. Make sure resources—like ISK, people, and tools—are being used wisely across all departments. Keep the EVE University Wiki up-to-date as a key resource for both members and the wider EVE community. Help other departments stay on track with the overall vision and goals of the organisation. Be a sounding board for the CEO and make sure communication flows smoothly between teams.
Gideon Mastracci III	Director of Logistics and Operations Focus: Overseeing the logistics and infrastructure that keep the university running smoothly. Oversee the functioning and setup of Eve University infrastructure. Determine the shape of fleet logistics, including the programs supporting them. Oversee the support for the combat side of Eve University. Work with improving and streamlining logistics processes. Make sure infrastructure is aligned to Eve University priorities and mission.
Nessie Blue	Director of Training and Development Focus: Helping members learn, grow, and develop their skills across all areas of the university. Find and support trainers, whether they’re guest speakers or part of the regular teaching team. Make sure training programmes actually achieve results and are engaging and relevant. Ensure that education is woven into all university activities—not just in classes, but through fleets, events, and other content. Team up with the Director of Communications and Outreach to bring in external speakers or training events. Keep refining the training structure to maintain high standards and accessibility.
Mosq	Director of Community Development Focus: Creating a strong, welcoming, and engaging environment for members. Support and facilitate events, activities, and creative projects that bring people together. Enable and encourage special interest areas like industry, exploration, and PvE. Provide tools and guidance to help others create content and initiatives. Create opportunities for members to socialise, collaborate, and build connections. Work with other directors to ensure the community vibe aligns with the university’s overall goals.
Professor Amfion	Director of Communications and Outreach Focus: Keeping members informed and promoting EVE University’s reputation in the wider EVE universe. Manage internal comms so everyone knows what’s going on and stays connected. Handle PR, including social media, articles, and outreach to the EVE community. Build relationships with other organisations, alliances, and key players in EVE Online. Work with the Director of Training and Development to bring in guest speakers or training events.
Bates Larsson	Director of Web Services and Systems Focus: Managing all technical aspects of the university’s online presence and infrastructure Oversee the web services, hosting and systems. Ensure that all technical aspects, such as databases, communication tools, and learning platforms, run smoothly. Ensure that the technical infrastructure supports the needs of all departments. Work closely with other directors to ensure the systems are secure, up-to-date, and capable of handling the university’s growing needs.

Web services manager

Preceptor Luxxianna The Web Services Manager manages the Web Development team, who support the Director of Information Services in the development and maintenance of software and tools used by EVE University.

EVE University founder

Morning Maniac “ I founded EVE University to create a place where new players could get together and be appreciated for who they were. Classes and doing things together were important but nothing was, and is, more important than the positive attitude towards new players. In the first three years I clocked about 4000 hours logged-in in the service of the University. After some real life changes my available free time was greatly reduced but I could rely on a great team of directors and managers to run the Uni. In the last three years I was mainly concerned with extinguishing fires and the occasional directorship drama, but fortunately for me and everyone involved these issues have become less frequent and intense. The current leadership is stable and doing well, and they seem to share my vision of what the University should be and they work hard to shape it as such, with all the limitations of the game and the people in it. More changes in my real life have resulted in even less EVE time and as a result I feel now removed from the game. Because of that I have decided that it is in the best interest of EVE University that I resign from my CEO position. I have asked Kelduum to succeed me and he has accepted the job. What does this mean for the University and its members? Well, nothing. It means that now the formal power will be with the person who has already been in charge for a long time. I trust that Kelduum and the rest of the leadership will continue to run and build the University as they have done in the past. If they should decide to take another route then that's fine too. As for me? I hope to stay a member of the University. If and when I have time I would like to log in and just join the chat with the new guys. The enthusiasm of new players is what I always enjoy most about EVE. Besides, there is always a lot to learn in EVE. Finally, I would like to thank everyone for putting your trust in me. When I founded the Uni I had no idea where it would go. Where we are today is far beyond anything I could have imagined. I have learned so much, I have met amazing people and had a great time. All thanks to you, members past and present of EVE University. ”

What duties does the Student Advocate carry on?

The scope of the duties is to ensure that the Uni is running smoothly as possible with all members (and departments) following policies, procedures, and protocols, and not letting issues grow to the point of explosions. Those should be for pew-pew.

• I will intercede in issues you may have with another member or staff/management member.
• The Student Advocate will moderate Uni chat channels and Mumble.
• Will give input where needed to all the Divisions of the Uni to ensure your needs and expectations are being met. Note that some things I don't have any control over.

What do I do if I have a complaint?

Should you have a complaint with another member, a staff member, manager, or even a director that has not been resolved of it's own accord then I am who you want to get in touch with.

• Ensure that you have taken reasonable steps to resolve the issue yourself. Try a private convo, evemail, or forum PM with the other party. Most issues are simply misunderstandings based on someone's mood, cultural or language difference, or playstyle, and if it was in chat only the communication between you and the other party can be difficult to "read" as in what mannerisms or tones are intended. Example, one person is making a joke and believes you're enjoying/getting it, yet you don't "know" that's the intent and you've taken it personally, and vice versa.
• Contact me via forum private message, or evemail with your complaint. Be perpared to provide chatlogs and/or copies of evemails, forum PMs, or any other correspondence/evidence as this will help us get to a resolution quicker.
• If your issue is with a staff member, manager, or director, and they were simply reminding you of or enforcing Uni rules and/or policies I may not treat it as a complaint.
• Please do not discuss your complaint with others or bring it forward to other staff, managers, or directors, as this can widen the situation and make it much more difficult to deal with and bring to a timely resolution. I had cases of this in the past and what could have been resolved quickly ended up taking weeks, and no one was happy at the end of it all.
• Give me the courtesy of patience and time to get to the bottom of the issue. We all have real lives and we also like to enjoy playing EVE Online. And there may be other, more critical issues that need handling.
• In cases of complaints against someone I am not here to determine who is who is right or wrong but rather to bring the complaint issue to a peaceful and amicable resolution between the parties involved.
• If I issue you interim instructions please be sure to follow them. These are designed to keep the issue from getting worse, thus complicating and delaying a resolution.
• I will do my best to help you resolve the issue in a timely fashion.
