What is the wormhole community?
 +
The Wormhole Community is an ongoing educational project of EVE University dedicated to instructing students about wormhole life. It was born in late November 2012 and reborn in March 2024 on EVE University's 20th birthday after an eviction. WHC is currently based out of a C4 wormhole with a C2 and a C3 static.

In-Game Chat Channel: slateblue
Wormhole Campus aims to provide students with an opportunity to experience W-Space life with all it's challenges and opportunities.

Background and Overview
+
Joining WHC
WHC had other previous iterations. Some archaic wiki pages can be found of these older installations.
+
Living in wormhole space is demanding and requires a curious combination of self-reliance and cooperation. WHC is a close-knit community where individuals have a lot of freedom to create and guide group content and where communication and teamwork are central to our lifestyle. Our goal is for every pilot to be able to join and contribute in as many of our day-to-day activities as possible. In order to achieve that end, we ask pilots to train a set of core skills that are vital for flying in wormhole space.

In Summer 2012 talks among management were initiated to re-open the unfortunate W-Space Campus. In October the final decision to go forward was made and WHC began preparation to open it's doors once more. WHC found a live-able system and erected a POS toward end-November and currently resides in a C2 W-Space system with a high-sec and C3 static. All eligible unistas are welcome to join.

If you move to WHC as a new, low-skill pilot, there will be a ships you cannot yet fly and some activities you cannot yet do, but with the entry skills listed, you can join us on some fights, scan down the chain, act as a picket for a PVE fleet, and otherwise get used to living in a wormhole. It can take a long time to be able to fly every ship in every doctrine, but it never takes too long to get off the ground. While you are getting those skills, you’ll be well on your way to getting “Patience V,” which is one of the most important out-of-game skills for a wormholer.

Ships to Bring
+
This section lists skills and ships that, while not required, increase the number of roles you can fill in the WHC.
Important: Due to the dangerous nature of PvE and PvP in w-space, and the mechanics of Ship Maintenance Arrays allowing access to all ships in storage, any ship and pod brought into the campus is to be considered lost or stolen.  Do not fly what you can't replace.

Also, keep in mind that WSOP is in effect and any sufficiently shiny loss to a war target is grounds for the X title and removal from the WHC.  Lack of local and not knowing they are in system is not a valid excuse.

Beyond Skills: The Wormhole Mindset
These skills are highly recommended if you plan to stay. They provide an adequate skill base for exploration and PvP.
+
If you're looking to stay in the WHC for a while, you'll need more than just a good base of skills. While skills are great, living in a wormhole requires a different mindset. There are realities to w-space that you might have never thought about before, and there are things that you might find useful or commonplace in k-space that no longer apply.

Joining the WHC
+
# Scanning is mandatory.
Once you have met the above requirements and are ready to try out wormhole life, follow the instructions below to be invited to join the WHC
+
#* A T1 Scanning Frigate is a good starting point for beginner explorers, but for J-space, clandestine scanning in a T2 CovOps Frigate is one of the most important contributions a player can make to WHC operations. Nearly everything we do is scanned down. Scanning and especially scouting in secret is safer and much more useful.
 +
# Battleships are too big for most of what we do.
 +
#* Wormholes have mass limits. Battleships have a lot of mass. They can only pass through a wormhole a few times before that wormhole starts to collapse.
 +
#* As you familiarize yourself with not just what, but also how things are done in a wormhole, you'll see that Tech 3 Strategic Cruisers, Logistics Cruisers (especially Tech 2 Logistics Cruisers), Heavy Assault Cruisers, Heavy Interdiction Cruisers, and Battlecruisers are the most used ship types. To maximize the roles you can fill over time, you should be willing to adjust your skill plan.
 +
#* The wormhole endgame, at least for a C2 wormhole, is all about packing as much offense and defense into the smallest ship size possible, which most of the time means battlecruisers and below.
 +
# The space you're living in is no longer well-defined. It is ever-changing.
 +
#* The wormhole you call home may seem constant, but just about everything else is quite dynamic as connecting wormholes form and collapse. What you think of as the neighborhood (and thus the neighbors) changes all the time.
 +
#* Things you may take for granted will vary over time. Access to trade hubs fluctuates day-to-day and hauling stuff can be both dangerous and inconvenient.
 +
#* Your home station cannot be set to a location in J-space. If you die, you'll have to respawn in a K-Space station.
 +
# You're going to be trapped in here with us.
 +
#* You won't always feel like you have a lot of choice in what you can do at any given moment. What we are connected to dictates what content is available.
 +
#* You might log in to run sites and find PvP happening instead. That's life and that's what you'll be doing that day.
 +
# You need to be <em>self-motivated</em>. This can not be stressed enough. If you are not a self-starter you will be spinning in structures and asking "Is there anything going on" quite frequently and that isn't any fun unless you're odd and think it is.
 +
#* <em>W-space is perhaps the most player-driven space in EVE.</em> If you're not making it happen, it probably isn't happening. Passive players will find things boring before long. Of course, newbros will always have a period to figure out what's going on, but in the end, you need to be a self-starter who can independently do what needs doing.
 +
#* If you don't have anything to do, make something to do. Scan down the wormhole chain. Scout systems, looking for PvP opportunities or ganks. Find a low-sec connection and lead a roam. Go to null-sec and point a carrier. This is the most exciting thing about the WHC: You get to make it happen!

NOTE: Due to limited space for the storage of ships and equipment, there is a chance that the campus will not be accepting applications at the current time.  Do not lose hope, we aim for a continuous turnover of occupants, and as long as the campus is successful, infrastructure will continue to go up increasing our maximum occupancy.
+
Wormhole life isn't everyone's cup of tea, but for a certain kind of player, nothing beats it. The WHC is an amazing opportunity for players to experience wormhole life firsthand. Come on a Noob Night In The Hole class, or join for a week and see if it sticks! Just be aware that beyond a minimal set of skills to join the community, you can expect a few play-style changes.

Living Out of a Can
+
Community Rules, Procedures and Etiquette
Since there are no stations in W-Space, you will have to store your items in a Secure Cargo Container. You can set a password on these, effectively making sure that the contents can't be stolen. Your ships will have to go into the communal Ship Maintenance Array or stay inside the POS shield. This means that all your hulls might be stolen, so faction fitting that Tech 3 cruiser of yours might be a little too tempting to some.
+
Community etiquette is covered in detail in forum post.
 +
General
 +
* Always join the WHC standing fleet if you're active in space. If there's no fleet, make one and put up an advert so others may join. See this detailed guide.
 +
* Always join the WHC mumble channel if you're active in space. Quick communication is essential, and if you can't talk, you can at least listen. If you're hearing impaired let a WHC staff member know.
 +
** Wormhole Community Mumble is an event chat. You may join the channel even if you're not actively participating in the fleet. Follow combat comms when active, regardless.
 +
* Help your fellow pilots learn. EVE University and the Wormhole Community are educational institutions. Learning opportunities are our primary goal and reason for existence.
 +
* Adhere to all EVE University Rules.
 +
* Fly what you can afford to lose.

Do not get your can stuck in the CHA!  You may think to bring in your can unassembled, and then try to assemble it in the CHA before taking it out to anchor it&mdash;DON'T. Assembled cans in the CHA require someone with campus permissions to remove, and odds are good that's not you, and the act of assembling it will then mean you can't remove it. Instead, make sure to assemble your can in a station in k-space, and then bring it in and anchor it.
+
POS
 +
{{expansion past|How much you can bring in
 +
* The Communal POS has limits to the number and mass of ships it can hold. Don't bring an Orca or a Battleship and expect to store it in an SMA.
 +
* The hard-coded limit of the number of items (ships) that can be stored in the SMA (Ship Maintenance Array) is 1000. Please keep that in mind and don't put 20 shuttles (for example) in there. Instead, some small ships such as shuttles and frigates that you don't use often can be repackaged and stored in your PHA (Personal Hangar Array). The bottom line is: remember that you are sharing space with others so please be considerate.
 +
* Once you have been accepted into a POS group, you can bring in as much as your POS group allows.
 +
** Getting into a POS Group can be difficult. Because of the value of ships and modules within each POS, each POS group wants to know you before they will accept you. Expect it to take you 2 to 3 months to be accepted into a POS group. Be active, participate in fleets and the forums and you will become well known.
 +
* Don't put cans in the CHA - Very important as only a director can take them out!

Using the POS
+
Assembling Ships
The main feature of the WHC POS is the Ship Maintenance Array(SMA) and Corporate Hangar Array(CHA). Here is a short introduction to Player Owned Starbases.

If you steal you'll be quickly added to the Departed list followed by a swift kick out of the University.

Ship Maintenance Array
The SMA can store 20 million m3 worth of assembled ships.  There are no divisions within the SMA, as such all ships stored are accessible by everyone in corp.

*To store your ship in the SMA, right click the array and select Store Vessel.

*The Access Vessel button lets you view ships that are currently stored.

*To board a ship, right click and select Board Vessel.

*To launch a ship for an alt, right click and select Launch Vessel.

*When boarding a new ship, the array will attempt to store your current ship which will fail if the cargohold contains assembled containers or the capacity of the array is surpassed leaving the ship floating in the field.

*If you do not have the required skills to use modules on the ship (namely T2 weapon systems) they will be offline upon jumping in, just replace the ship in the SMA.

**NOTE: All campus members have access to the SMA.  In general if you are not okay with other people sitting in your ship, then with the current mechanics, wormhole life is most likely not for you as "ownership" is a very relative term when living out of a POS.  That said, please respect the property of others.

Communal Ships
*All ships marked as WHC, UNI or unnamed, stored in the SMA should be considered communal ships and may be used by any campus member with the required skills.

**Ships are first come first serve, please do not fight over ships though, look at disagreements as an opportunity to try out a different hull/role

**These can either be ships stocked by the campus staff, or through donations by campus members (we always accept donations)

**These ships are not to be renamed as they are intended to remain communal

**If the ship or modules suffer any heat/shield/armor/hull damage, they should be repaired prior to returning to storage

**It is recommended to replace lost communal ships within 24 hours of the loss use the loss mail as a shopping list, If replacing them yourself, please seek reimbursement via the Ship Replacement Program.  This is not required, as these will be replaced on semi-regular intervals by the WHC staff.

Personal Ships
*Personal ships are defined as Those titled with a unique 3 letter prefix other than WHC or UNI

**Personal ships owned by others may be used unless they are labelled 'NO'. Do not board ships labelled 'NO' unless there is a campus emergency declared by Uni directors or campus leadership. Emergencies don't remove the "replace if lost" clause.

**If the ship or modules suffer any heat/shield/armor/hull damage, they should be repaired prior to returning to storage

**By boarding any ship that is not your own, you commit to replacing it when lost within 24 hours of the loss using the loss mail as a shopping list.  Meaning depositing a fully fitted ship back into the SMA, do not contract or reimburse unless the owner has given express permission that is okay.

Corporate Hangar Array
The CHA can store 1.4 million m3 worth of items including un-assembled ships.  There are 7 divisions within the CHA, each with their own access control.  This is setup the same as all Uni corporate hangars based on current title status

DO NOT store containers in the CHA!
*It requires elevated privileges that very few within the Uni posses to remove assembled containers from a corporate hangar.

*Even if you have privileges, you can't extract items from the containers without first removing the container from the Hangar into your ship's hold

Citadel
General
+
* Stay logged out or cloaked in a safe spot when you are not doing anything. The Citadel shows the number of people that are online in the Citadel in a small bracket beside the name when on-grid. If you are not in a combat recon you will show on d-scan outside the citadel. If our numbers look larger than they are, we might miss out on fights or, even worse, we might look like we are docking up to avoid a fight.
*Members active in the campus must be in the WHC fleet. If there is no fleet advertised, you may form one, and put up an advert so others may join.

* We appreciate it if you store expendable ships in the freshman hangar for common access in the spirit of sharing. Feel free to take ships out of the freshman hangar yourself. If it blows up, you replace it. If the person who owns the ship is around you should ask.
*Members active in the campus must be in mumble, at least able to listen. (if you are hearing impaired, let us know)
+
* There are usually a few rolling battleships in the hangar but we expect all community members to buy their own when they are able. Praxises are cheap, owning your own rolling ship is good community citizenship, and in a hole-control situation we may need to have a large fleet of rolling ships available.
**Wormhole Campus mumble is an event chat, so you may join mumble if you are not actively participating in the fleet, however you MUST follow combat comms when active.

*Help your fellow campers learn. This is an on-going educational event. Lesson opportunities override all else.

*Adhere to all EVE University Rules and WSOP.

*Fly what you can afford to lose.

Diplomatic Concerns
+
PvE
*Do not insult, provoke, or smack talk other corporations, alliances, or individual members in local or any other forum. Shoot them, pod them, gank their industrial ships, but be polite about it.
+
* PvE loot is the property of the group who agree to rat or run sites together.
*Do not discuss changes to diplomatic relations with the members of any other corporation or alliance unless you are an EVE University diplomat.
+
* The community offers a loot hauling and selling service at a 15% cut which goes to fuel and other operational needs. See below for more info.
*Avoid engaging fleets of mixed neutrals and blues.
+
* Don't run the Combat Anomalies located in the home system without talking with a community coordinator first; these are limited spawns that we generally reserve for community events. You are allowed to run Gas Sites, Ore Anomalies, and Ghost Sites. Any sites outside of the home system are fair game, as long as you're following WHC etiquette.

PvP
+
Etiquette
*Rules of Engagement are Not Blue Shoot It (NBSI). Should students roam into lowsec systems, the rule is Not Red Don't Shoot, or NRDS (more or less). Refer to the Uni Rules of Engagement for specific details. Students are encouraged to aggressively seek out fights with neutral parties.
+
* Announce activations.
*Any event that results in a killmail or lossmail will have a comment on the killboard.
+
* Announce PvP to the WHC mumble.
*Suggested PvP loot distribution is donation to the campus. Fleet Agreement on loot distribution overrides this.
+
* PVE ad-hoc Harvester Fleets and PvP events should be advertised via Discord Pings; see guidelines for pinging.
**An exception to this rule is during wartime, war-target loot belongs to the Logistics Department.
+
* It is against EVE University's Neutrality stance to conduct PVE in holes occupied by corps that are Blue to the Ivy League without asking for their permission first.

PvE
+
Comms
*PvE loot is property of the group who agree to rat or run sites together.
+
* Community communications default to open comms. This may change if something is happening. For instance, if there is an imminent threat or a quick response fleet forming, the channel may be restricted to essential communication only, guided by an active FC (commonly called "Combat Comms").
*The campus offers a loot hauling and selling service at a 5% cut which goes to fuel and other operational needs. See below for more info.
+
* Unless urgent, please wait a minute before speaking when entering the channel. This will allow you to get your bearings and not interrupt something important in progress.
 +
* You may enter the WHC mumble channel without being a community member or EVE University Staff. Please keep in mind that community members may be engaged in other activities and may not be able to answer your questions immediately.
 +
* Groups of students operating in the W-Space chain may remain in the WHC mumble without making a separate fleet and can use the WHC Overflow mumble subchannel to coordinate their activities.
 +
* Prolonged operations in K-Space can move to a separate mumble channel. Moving to a separate fleet from the community is also an option.
 +
* Please follow our Communications Policy when on comms.

Comms
+
WHC Alternate Character Rules
*Campus communications are by default “OPEN COMMS”.

*You may not enter the Wormhole Campus Mumble Channel unless you are a campus member, Eve Uni Staff, Manager or Director. You will most likely be asked to leave and then kicked.

*When first entering the campus mumble, please wait at least a full minute before speaking, unless it is very urgent.

*Campus may move to “Open Command” or "Closed Comms" if there is a threat in the immediate location or if a local QRF has formed.

*Groups of students operating in the nearby systems may remain in the main campus mumble.

*Operations in Known Space must move to a separate ILN Fleet mumble channel. Moving to a separate fleet from the campus is recommended but not required.

*We operate on a "built for purpose" foundation.  If you are hunting someone in particular, or are operating a constant operation hunting targets, join a separate mumble channel (or fleet as a whole) until you accomplish your goal or disband the initiative.  This helps organize our fleet and keep comms clear for those who need it.

Bookmarking
+
You may request to have your alternate characters in Ivy League Alt Alliance or EVE University added to the ACL granting docking and bookmarks. They should be either in a personal corp you control with only your own characters, in EVE University Hall of Residence, the Combat Comms corporation, or EVE University itself. Due to restrictions of the ACL/shared folder system, alts do not have bookmark edit access. Alts in Combat Comms can edit bookmarks and get Pathfinder access. In-corp (EVE University) alts get Pathfinder access and can join the fleet via the fleet finder. Combat Comms is a good option for a scanner alt to join Combat Comms, tick the appropriate box in the form. In-corp is a good option for an Interdictor alt.
Corporate Bookmarks
+
There is no hard cap on the number of alts but be reasonable, requests for massive numbers of alts will result in rejection. Entire alt corps will never be added to the ACL, only specific characters.
WHC follows an easy to understand bookmarking convention, although it varies depending on whether it is a site or wormhole
+
You may have alts in space that are not on any ACL, such as seeds you safe log. These should still be in the fleet when in space so that they can be identified as friendly.

Sites
+
Use this form to make your alt request.
*Standard format is "<sigtype> [<sigid>] <additional info>"

*Signature types are G(Gravimetric), L(Ladar), R(Radar), M(Magnetometric)

*Examples;

**G [CCC] Average Frontier Deposit

**L [DDD] Barren Perimeter Reservoir

Wormholes
+
Naming Conventions
*For BMs leading away from Innuendo the format is .[current system]>[system it leads into]

*For BMs leading towards Innuendeo the format is *[current system]>[system it leads into]

*They are the same except the first character

*Use the friendly wormhole name (see below)

Personal Bookmarks
+
What Are Alpha, Bravo, and Cake?
You are also recommended to make certain personal bookmarks
+
Cake is our home system, the one with all our structures.<br>
*Bookmark the K-Space side of wormholes yourself
+
Alpha is what we call the C2 static in our wormhole.<br>
*Make safe spots
+
Bravo is what we call the C3 static in our wormhole.<br>
*Make tactical bookmarks

** Double optimal from each POS defense grouping

** On grid yet outside minimum warp distance (150km) of the POS

** Just off grid from POS

Naming Systems
+
Mapper & Bookmark Naming Scheme
*ANY W-Space connection off bacon is prefixed with "B".
+
Wormhole space is dynamic. Navigation is challenging. Coordinating an entire community is more challenging still. To do this we:
*ANY W-Space connection off eggs is prefixed "E".

*ALL W-Space dynamics and their respective chains are prefixed with a new letter starting from the end of the alphabet (ie first chain is "Z" then "Y" etc.)

*ALL K-Space connections are prefixed with the appropriate letter. All numbers remain unique. So "BH2" and "EH2" shouldn't exist together.

An example map

Erm, What's this System Called then?
+
* Share a wormhole map allowing WHC campers to see the surrounding space and get a sense of what is where.
If it is bacon or eggs, then the system is bacon (shortened to B) or eggs (shortened to E). How easy was that?
+
* Share a wormhole mapping scheme which gives each wormhole a useful and meaningful name on the mapper.
Below assumes you're about to jump into the system
+
* Create community bookmarks that all members can see and use.
 +
* Share a wormhole bookmarking scheme which gives each wormhole a useful and meaningful name in the corporation bookmarks, and helps members navigate even if the mapper is malfunctioning.

Find Initial Letter
+
Personal Bookmarks
*If you're in Bacon: it's "B"
+
It is also recommended that you make and maintain certain personal bookmarks:
*If you're in Eggs: it's "E"
+
* Make safe spots
*If you're in Innuendo:
+
** In the home system, but also in systems you visit
**kspace does not have one
+
* Make tactical bookmarks
**wspace, from end of alphabet, take first unused letter
+
** On grid yet outside minimum warp distance (150km) of the citadel
*Otherwise, use the first letter from your current system

kspace letter
+
Living in Wormhole Space
*If the connection is a kspace, take the first letter of the type of space (ie H, L, or N)
+
See Living in Wormhole Space for additional information. <br>

Find the number
+
Services
*For kspace systems
+
Loot Hauling & Selling
**If this is Bacon's static then take 1
+
WHC makes use of AA Buyback for loot hauling and selling service. Payouts can take a few days to process, but you won't have to haul loot through wartarget-riddled K-Space. The University takes a 7.5% cut for operational costs, WHC takes 7.5% cut to pay its scanners, and the rest is distributed to the players using the service.
**Otherwise find the first number that is unused for the type of space it is. If there are no other systems of that type of space, use 2.

*For wspace systems

**From Bacon or Eggs use 2

**Otherwise use the earliest number which does not currently have a system with the same initial letter as the system

Put it all together
+
Imports
Your system is initial letter + kspace letter + number (ignore any parts that don't exist)
+
E-Uni hauling department has run hauling services to and from WHC in the past. This service is not currently available to our C4 home system, but individual WHC members are nearly always willing to lend a hand and a DST to help out.

 +
Medical Bay
 +
WHC has a Clone Bay in its Fortizar. This allows WHC members to house a training clone at WHC and swap to a clean clone without using the 24-hour timer. However, you cannot set a station in J-space to be your home station, you must use K-space. This means if you die, you will not respawn at WHC. Many members set a station in Jita as a home station to make it easy to reship before heading back to the hole.

Alts
+
Newbro advice
Due to many different factors like Neutrality, ensuring that its not just one small group of Real Life people who are enjoying the campus and a few other administrative headaches a strict policy regarding Alts was developed for the Wormhole Campus.
+
As a new player looking to join the WHC, the amount of information can be overwhelming. EVE has existed for over twenty years. There is a plethora of links, threads, and videos which sometimes can lead to more questions than they answer. One of the reasons why some newbros lose ships is that they were not prepared for the change of gameplay and demands of wormhole life.

+
The good news is that you don't need to have all the answers right now. That's why the Wormhole Community exists!

Alt Rules while at the WHC
+
As long as you have the required skills to join, currently hold the freshman title, and have read and understood this page, you are welcome to apply. The WHC community welcomes newcomers and lets them develop inside the WHC. With the guidance of existing members, you get to make your choices after you've arrived.

*All of your Alts behavior, regardless of which Corp / Alliance they are in are subject to EVE University Rules. Any break of those rules will result in disciplinary action taken on your main.
+
While this should lower the threshold to apply for some, you should also be aware that life in a wormhole is diverse and your choices will dictate your participation in the different activities.
*Alts in third party player-owned corporations may not engage in PvP activity.

*No Alts shall be allowed in the W-Space system if the Main character is not an active member of the WHC. Your main may leave the WHC for events / shopping trips / and other activities but should return in a day or so, otherwise your Alt(s) will be asked to leave also.

*If your main receives an [[Titles#.5BX.5D_Administrative_Suspension|[X] Title]], your Alt must also leave the system.

*You may bring multiple Alts who are in the Ivy League alliance (as in the alt is in the Ivy League Hall of Residence). Be advised that we will keep a close eye on the numbers and if we see that pilots are abusing this (as in bringing in 10 ALTS and not leave any PI for the regular Unistas we may place a limit on this.

*You may bring only 1 Alt that is out of the alliance, said Alt may be in a NPC Corporation or a personal Player Owned Corporation.

**Personal Player Owned Corporation must be owned and inhabited only by Alts of a UNI character who is an active member of the WHC.

**Personal Player Owned Corporation standings must be set to +5. Please join the in-game channel "Diplomacy.E-UNI" for instructions on how to do this. (You can blame CCP POS mechanics for this one)

**The Alt (as in the Character itself) must be set to +7.5 to the Ivy League Alliance please fill in this form to accomplish this, Wait for a confirmation email from the diplomats and then please wait 24 hours (to ensure standings register, we hope that is long enough)

*Due to current POS mechanics, your Alt that is in the Ivy League Alliance (Ivy League Hall of Residence) will be able to enter the POS shield of the Communal POS, your Alt that is outside of the Alliance will not.
+
To participate in the most common activities you'll need skills for a combat frigate, a racial battlecruiser, and a scanning frigate (Astero or Cov Ops). This will get you started and will let you get a grasp of what is going on and what to focus your training on by engaging in a range of different activities. For example, an Astero or Cov Ops frigate can map out the wormhole chain, act as a picket, scout out wormholes for potential PvP, and even act as a hero tackle on occasion. Just like the rest of EVE Uni, the community uses evolving doctrines. AAFs and SBCs are currently frequent PvP doctrines, and Harvesters and the C3 Wolf-Rayet Kikimoras undock almost daily for PvE.
*No Out-of-Alliance Alts will have access to any of the POS modules. (That includes the Ship Maintenance Array and the Corp Hangar Array)

What can your Alt do for you in the Wormhole?
+
Nato Alphabet - Using a phonetic alphabet helps you to be understood when communicating letters. We use this to say the signature IDs or system names. It reduces the possibility of people mishearing the letters you are saying. For example, someone could hear <em>V</em> instead of <em>B</em>. But with the Nato Alphabet, <em>Bravo</em> sounds very different from <em>Victor</em>. Use of the NATO Alphabet is recommended even if you have the clearest, least-accented voice as audio issues can still happen.
*Scanning Alts are Awesome! It increases the security of the entire campus to have more characters able to scan their way out of the system therefore letting a Uni Fleet in when we have to.

*Planetary Interaction Alt. Having more Alts do planetary interaction helps to collect PI taxes for the UNI and therefore pay for POS fuel and things like that.

*Hauling Alt. Your Alt can haul your goods for you, in and out of the Wormhole through K-Space. (This should be your Alt that is outside of the Alliance, as you avoid the UNI Wars)

*ORCA Alts : these are awesome, Having an ORCA Alt will allow you to keep your ships and belongings safe (well as safe as you can be in a Wormhole) from corp thieves. (This one should probably be in the Alliance as you can then enjoy the safety of the POS shield.)

Uni Management and Campus leadership will be keeping an eye on the issue. Any Unista found to not be following these rules will be subject to a talk with a member of the Student Relations Department and possible disciplinary action as judged appropriate by them.
+
If you have any further questions, please reach out to current WHC members in Mumble, WHC Community Chat, or via the EVE Uni Forums.

Information on creating a scanning alt can be found here.

Community Coordinators
Donations
+
Community Coordinators (CCs) help guide the Wormhole Community through the uncharted territory of wormhole space. They encourage active participation in scanning, PvP engagements, Sleeper site running, and various industrial activities. WHC offers a unique experience, living without stations, manipulating wormholes, and embracing the challenges of lawless space. Community Coordinators are responsible for ensuring that WHC thrives in this dynamic and exhilarating environment, fostering a sense of exploration, camaraderie, and adaptability. If you have questions about WHC or issues that need to get sorted out, CCs are a great resource.
Fuel donations can be dropped into the Logistics tab in the CHA. Other donations can be place into the Restricted tab. Larget donations can be made in K-Space after contacting camp leadership.

What Can I Do in WHC?
*Scan, scan, scan! Everything in W-space needs to be scanned down. Probe the chain, scout new connections, observe our neighbours, picket a hole if you are not doing anything. Do not sit at the POS and wait for stuff to happen, content, whether PvP or PvE is created by You!

Surviving in W-Space
General Advice
There is a steep learning curve for those who choose W-Space life. As if the lack of stations weren't enough, you face dangers such as corp theft, extremely dangerous NPC rats, completely invisible roaming PvP gangs(there is no local chat in W-Space) and getting irrecoverably lost in space. Listen to experienced players, don't leave home system without a probe launcher and ask about anything that comes to your mind.

Fly What You Can Afford to Lose
+
{| style="text-align: center;"
Any ship you bring into W-Space should be considered already lost, be it to theft or gank. Consider not flying that shiny HAC you just bought and sticking to Battlecruiser hulls a little longer.

Overview
+
| style="border: 1px dotted lightgrey;" |
Your overview should be set up to Eve Uni standards. This is important because PvP roams will require you to be in complete sync with your fleet. The standard Eve Uni overview also has a 'Wormholes' tab specially tailored for D-Scanning POS's and wormhole activity. Be aware that it's there and consider switching it with one of your tabs.

Local Chat
+
| style="border: 1px dotted lightgrey;" |
Or the lack thereof. Local chat does not exist in wormholes. Therefore, enemies are virtually invisible until they decide to be seen. Whenever you are out of the POS shield, you should be mashing D-Scan every chance you get. You should also keep an eye on chat and an ear on Mumble. If somebody states that there is an emergency, immediately warp to a safe spot if you have a cloak or bounce between safe spots if you don't.

+
| style="border: 1px dotted lightgrey;" |
DO NOT TALK IN LOCAL. You will show up and stay there for ~15 minutes giving everybody in the system free intel.

Before joining the campus, make sure that you have basic knowledge of Scanning & Probing. Additional requirements exist for Combat Probing. Diplomacy Directorate
Camp leadership operates a loot hauling and selling service. You will be payed later but you won't have to haul loot through wartarget riddled K-Space. WHC takes a 5% cut for operational costs and distributes the rest based on income.

To make use of this service your salvager should learn how to use the spreadsheet linked in the standing fleet and drop acquired loot into the labeled can in system.

The Wormhole Community is currently transitioning to its new home in C4 space following the eviction from its long-held C2 wormhole (Innuendo).
Applications are currently suspended and will be reinstated once the University's Alliance-Auth-based process is completed.

What is the wormhole community?

The Wormhole Community is an ongoing educational project of EVE University dedicated to instructing students about wormhole life. It was born in late November 2012 and reborn in March 2024 on EVE University's 20th birthday after an eviction. WHC is currently based out of a C4 wormhole with a C2 and a C3 static.

Joining WHC

Living in wormhole space is demanding and requires a curious combination of self-reliance and cooperation. WHC is a close-knit community where individuals have a lot of freedom to create and guide group content and where communication and teamwork are central to our lifestyle. Our goal is for every pilot to be able to join and contribute in as many of our day-to-day activities as possible. In order to achieve that end, we ask pilots to train a set of core skills that are vital for flying in wormhole space.

Required Skills Required Titles Required Ships Recommended Knowledge
  • Freshman (The title must be showing in-game)

Please note that there are new-player-friendly meta fittings for faction frigates in the Armor Assault Frigate doctrine above. You can find those fits in the doctrine listing in EVE University's Alliance Auth system.

Once you've met these requirements and are ready to give wormhole life a try, apply here.

Recommended Skills & Ships

Wormhole life is dangerous. As always, don't fly what you can't afford to lose.

This section lists skills and ships that, while not required, increase the number of roles you can fill in the WHC.

Skill Basic level Advanced level Why?
Icon skillbook2.png Astrometrics 3 4 Each level improves your ability to scan.
Icon skillbook2.png Astrometric Rangefinding 0 3 Each level increases scan strength.
Icon skillbook2.png Astrometric Acquisition 0 3 Each level increases scan speed.
Icon skillbook2.png Astrometric Pinpointing 0 3 Each level reduces scan deviation on results.
<Racial> Battlecruiser 3 4 Apart from Heavy Assault Cruisers and T3 Strategic Cruisers, Battlecruisers are the best ships to fly in WHC.
<Racial> Cruiser 3 5 Cruisers are a crucial stepping stone toward T3 Strategic Cruisers, Heavy Assault Cruisers, and Heavy Interdictor Cruisers. They're also cheap.
Icon skillbook2.png Salvaging 1 4 Sleeper Battleship wrecks require IV to salvage however the use of 3 salvage rigs allow them to be salvaged with Salvaging I.
Icon skillbook2.png Hacking 3 4 Data Analyzers are used in Data sites. The skill increases the HP [hit points] of your virus.
Icon skillbook2.png Archaeology 3 4 Relic Analyzers are used in Relic sites. The skill increases the HP [hit points] of your virus.
Icon skillbook2.png Covert Ops 4 5 Cloaking while scanning and reduction of CPU requirements.
<x> Armor Compensation 3 4 All four of the armor compensation skills improve the effectiveness of passive armor tanking.
Ship Role Support skills
T1 Exploration Frigate Scanning/picketing <Racial> frigate 3; Icon skillbook2.png Cloaking I
Covert Operations Frigate Scanning/scouting Icon skillbook2.png Covert Ops IV; Icon skillbook2.png Cloaking IV
<Racial> Battlecruiser Combat <Racial> Battlecruiser 3; Varies

The above are merely suggestions for being useful during your first few weeks in the system without investing too many resources in the endeavor. Once you are more comfortable with day-to-day operations and better understand the risks involved, you may consider bringing in more specialized or expensive ships and equipment.

Wormhole Community Ship Fittings

The WHC Forum includes our current doctrine fittings. Those fittings are also available in the Corporation Fittings window in-game, as are some utility fits such as rolling and scanning ships. Please note that the forum post contains the most current doctrine fittings; updates to the in-game window may occasionally be delayed.

Beyond Skills: The Wormhole Mindset

If you're looking to stay in the WHC for a while, you'll need more than just a good base of skills. While skills are great, living in a wormhole requires a different mindset. There are realities to w-space that you might have never thought about before, and there are things that you might find useful or commonplace in k-space that no longer apply.

  1. Scanning is mandatory.
    • A T1 Scanning Frigate is a good starting point for beginner explorers, but for J-space, clandestine scanning in a T2 CovOps Frigate is one of the most important contributions a player can make to WHC operations. Nearly everything we do is scanned down. Scanning and especially scouting in secret is safer and much more useful.
  2. Battleships are too big for most of what we do.
    • Wormholes have mass limits. Battleships have a lot of mass. They can only pass through a wormhole a few times before that wormhole starts to collapse.
    • As you familiarize yourself with not just what, but also how things are done in a wormhole, you'll see that Tech 3 Strategic Cruisers, Logistics Cruisers (especially Tech 2 Logistics Cruisers), Heavy Assault Cruisers, Heavy Interdiction Cruisers, and Battlecruisers are the most used ship types. To maximize the roles you can fill over time, you should be willing to adjust your skill plan.
    • The wormhole endgame, at least for a C2 wormhole, is all about packing as much offense and defense into the smallest ship size possible, which most of the time means battlecruisers and below.
  3. The space you're living in is no longer well-defined. It is ever-changing.
    • The wormhole you call home may seem constant, but just about everything else is quite dynamic as connecting wormholes form and collapse. What you think of as the neighborhood (and thus the neighbors) changes all the time.
    • Things you may take for granted will vary over time. Access to trade hubs fluctuates day-to-day and hauling stuff can be both dangerous and inconvenient.
    • Your home station cannot be set to a location in J-space. If you die, you'll have to respawn in a K-Space station.
  4. You're going to be trapped in here with us.
    • You won't always feel like you have a lot of choice in what you can do at any given moment. What we are connected to dictates what content is available.
    • You might log in to run sites and find PvP happening instead. That's life and that's what you'll be doing that day.
  5. You need to be self-motivated. This can not be stressed enough. If you are not a self-starter you will be spinning in structures and asking "Is there anything going on" quite frequently and that isn't any fun unless you're odd and think it is.
    • W-space is perhaps the most player-driven space in EVE. If you're not making it happen, it probably isn't happening. Passive players will find things boring before long. Of course, newbros will always have a period to figure out what's going on, but in the end, you need to be a self-starter who can independently do what needs doing.
    • If you don't have anything to do, make something to do. Scan down the wormhole chain. Scout systems, looking for PvP opportunities or ganks. Find a low-sec connection and lead a roam. Go to null-sec and point a carrier. This is the most exciting thing about the WHC: You get to make it happen!

What can I do in WHC?

  • Scan, scan, scan! Everything in W-space needs to be scanned down. Probe the chain, scout new connections, observe our neighbors, and picket a hole if you are not doing anything. Do not sit in a citadel and wait for stuff to happen; content, whether PvP or PvE, is created by you!
    • It is especially important to keep note of all new signatures so we don't get surprised by unexpected neighbors. Compare the signatures in the mapper with those in your scan window and right-click ->ignore all the known ones. This way you will immediately see if a new signature spawns.
  • Rolling
    • You can roll the wormhole connections if you scanned down the chain already and can not find any content.
  • PvE
    • Practice scouting using the Wormhole Community Scouting Guide
    • Earn ISK by running Sleeper sites with fellow Unistas. Be aware that the Sleeper site running is a little different from the site running in K-space, as there are no bounties and no module drops. Instead, Sleepers drop Sleeper Components (referred to as blue loot due to its icon color), as well as valuable salvage.
      • Please do not run Combat Sites or Null Data and Relic Sites in Pavilion - we save these as bait for day-trippers and the more of them we have in our system, the more likely someone will take the bait and run them. You can, however, mine Gas Sites and Ore Anomalies, and run Sleeper Data and Relic Sites. If we use up the sites in Pavilion, they take a long time to respawn and that will ensure no visitors, and we want visitors so we can shoot at them.
  • PvP
    • Baiting
    • Practice combat probing
    • Ganking clueless daytrippers
    • Experiencing what the lack of local chat or static gates does to PvP
    • Use K-space exits as covert bridges to engage in sudden ambushes
  • Industry
  • Experience lawless and uncharted space

Community Rules, Procedures and Etiquette

Community etiquette is covered in detail in forum post.

General

  • Always join the WHC standing fleet if you're active in space. If there's no fleet, make one and put up an advert so others may join. See this detailed guide.
  • Always join the WHC mumble channel if you're active in space. Quick communication is essential, and if you can't talk, you can at least listen. If you're hearing impaired let a WHC staff member know.
    • Wormhole Community Mumble is an event chat. You may join the channel even if you're not actively participating in the fleet. Follow combat comms when active, regardless.
  • Help your fellow pilots learn. EVE University and the Wormhole Community are educational institutions. Learning opportunities are our primary goal and reason for existence.
  • Adhere to all EVE University Rules.
  • Fly what you can afford to lose.

POS

Citadel

  • Stay logged out or cloaked in a safe spot when you are not doing anything.
  • We appreciate it if you store expendable ships in the freshman hangar for common access in the spirit of sharing. Feel free to take ships out of the freshman hangar yourself. If it blows up, you replace it. If the person who owns the ship is around you should ask.
  • There are usually a few rolling battleships in the hangar but we expect all community members to buy their own when they are able. Praxises are cheap, owning your own rolling ship is good community citizenship, and in a hole-control situation we may need to have a large fleet of rolling ships available.

PvE

  • PvE loot is the property of the group who agree to rat or run sites together.
  • The community offers a loot hauling and selling service at a 15% cut which goes to fuel and other operational needs. See below for more info.
  • Don't run the Combat Anomalies located in the home system without talking with a community coordinator first; these are limited spawns that we generally reserve for community events. You are allowed to run Gas Sites, Ore Anomalies, and Ghost Sites. Any sites outside of the home system are fair game, as long as you're following WHC etiquette.

Etiquette

  • Announce activations.
  • Announce PvP to the WHC mumble.
  • PVE ad-hoc Harvester Fleets and PvP events should be advertised via Discord Pings; see guidelines for pinging.
  • It is against EVE University's Neutrality stance to conduct PVE in holes occupied by corps that are Blue to the Ivy League without asking for their permission first.

Comms

  • Community communications default to open comms. This may change if something is happening. For instance, if there is an imminent threat or a quick response fleet forming, the channel may be restricted to essential communication only, guided by an active FC (commonly called "Combat Comms").
  • Unless urgent, please wait a minute before speaking when entering the channel. This will allow you to get your bearings and not interrupt something important in progress.
  • You may enter the WHC mumble channel without being a community member or EVE University Staff. Please keep in mind that community members may be engaged in other activities and may not be able to answer your questions immediately.
  • Groups of students operating in the W-Space chain may remain in the WHC mumble without making a separate fleet and can use the WHC Overflow mumble subchannel to coordinate their activities.
  • Prolonged operations in K-Space can move to a separate mumble channel. Moving to a separate fleet from the community is also an option.
  • Please follow our Communications Policy when on comms.

WHC Alternate Character Rules

There is no hard cap on the number of alts but be reasonable, requests for massive numbers of alts will result in rejection. Entire alt corps will never be added to the ACL, only specific characters. You may have alts in space that are not on any ACL, such as seeds you safe log. These should still be in the fleet when in space so that they can be identified as friendly.

Use this form to make your alt request.

Naming Conventions

What Are Alpha, Bravo, and Cake?

Cake is our home system, the one with all our structures.
Alpha is what we call the C2 static in our wormhole.
Bravo is what we call the C3 static in our wormhole.

Mapper & Bookmark Naming Scheme

Wormhole space is dynamic. Navigation is challenging. Coordinating an entire community is more challenging still. To do this we:

Personal Bookmarks

It is also recommended that you make and maintain certain personal bookmarks:

  • Make safe spots
    • In the home system, but also in systems you visit
  • Make tactical bookmarks
    • On grid yet outside minimum warp distance (150km) of the citadel

Services

Loot Hauling & Selling

WHC makes use of AA Buyback for loot hauling and selling service. Payouts can take a few days to process, but you won't have to haul loot through wartarget-riddled K-Space. The University takes a 7.5% cut for operational costs, WHC takes 7.5% cut to pay its scanners, and the rest is distributed to the players using the service.

Imports

E-Uni hauling department has run hauling services to and from WHC in the past. This service is not currently available to our C4 home system, but individual WHC members are nearly always willing to lend a hand and a DST to help out.

Medical Bay

WHC has a Clone Bay in its Fortizar. This allows WHC members to house a training clone at WHC and swap to a clean clone without using the 24-hour timer. However, you cannot set a station in J-space to be your home station, you must use K-space. This means if you die, you will not respawn at WHC. Many members set a station in Jita as a home station to make it easy to reship before heading back to the hole.

Newbro advice

As a new player looking to join the WHC, the amount of information can be overwhelming. EVE has existed for over twenty years. There is a plethora of links, threads, and videos which sometimes can lead to more questions than they answer. One of the reasons why some newbros lose ships is that they were not prepared for the change of gameplay and demands of wormhole life.

The good news is that you don't need to have all the answers right now. That's why the Wormhole Community exists!

As long as you have the required skills to join, currently hold the freshman title, and have read and understood this page, you are welcome to apply. The WHC community welcomes newcomers and lets them develop inside the WHC. With the guidance of existing members, you get to make your choices after you've arrived.

While this should lower the threshold to apply for some, you should also be aware that life in a wormhole is diverse and your choices will dictate your participation in the different activities.

Nato Alphabet - Using a phonetic alphabet helps you to be understood when communicating letters. We use this to say the signature IDs or system names. It reduces the possibility of people mishearing the letters you are saying. For example, someone could hear V instead of B. But with the Nato Alphabet, Bravo sounds very different from Victor. Use of the NATO Alphabet is recommended even if you have the clearest, least-accented voice as audio issues can still happen.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to current WHC members in Mumble, WHC Community Chat, or via the EVE Uni Forums.

Community Coordinators
