==Summary==
The Rorqual is a capital industrial ship. Its typical role is supporting mining operations by providing Mining Foreman ganglinks and compressing ore. Due to its inability to enter highsec its fleet boosting role is taken over by the Orca, although the improvements to yield are less.

Before the Citadel Expansion the Rorqual was mostly a toy for Mining Forman Links and ore compression in the field. Nowadays it's a serious weapon for the industrial backbone of major nullsec alliances and also sees use as a PvP ship as well, using its high drone damage and capital tank to good effect.

It has the ability to fit a capital tractor beam which could be used in conjunction with 'Jet Can' mining, which allow it to pull cargo containers of ore to it before compression, but due to the high price of the Rorqual many favour keeping them within the relative safety of a POS. Instead they opt for using less expensive ships for the tractor beaming of cans (Noctis), and using a industrial ship or freighter to pick up the ore. The Rorqual does have the ability to compress ore whilst running its industrial core. Compression is important as it significantly reduces the volume of ore. For large mining operations with higher volumes of ore Rorqual's compression ability is but overshadowed by the compression array. The compression array is a structure that can be anchored within a POS and in comparison can hold considerably larger quantities of ore, allowing for larger quantities of ore to be compressed at once.

The Rorqual is a very capable ship with many tools to assist miners but with better alternatives available many miners only use Rorquals for its bonus to mining foreman links.

The Rorqual was conceived and designed by Outer Ring Excavations in response to a growing need for capital industry platforms with the ability to support and sustain large-scale mining operations in uninhabited areas of space.

To that end, the Rorqual's primary strength lies in its ability to grind raw ores into particles of smaller size than possible before, while still maintaining their distinctive molecular structure. This means the vessel is able to carry vast amounts of ore in compressed form.

Additionally, the Rorqual is able to fit a capital tractor beam unit, capable of pulling in cargo containers from far greater distances and at far greater speeds than smaller beams can. It also possesses a sizeable drone bay, jump drive capability and the capacity to fit a clone vat bay. This combination of elements makes the Rorqual the ideal nexus to build deep space mining operations around.

Due to its specialization towards industrial operations, its ship maintenance bay is able to accommodate only industrial ships, mining barges and their tech 2 variants

NOTES
  • Your high slots and your two utility mid slots may change according to what you're doing. Always keep: The Industrial Core, the Cynosural Field Generator, the Capital Remote Shield Booster, the PANIC module. The heavy energy neutralizer, the smartbomb, the Drone Link Augmentor (some people use two), and the shield command burst (for your own local tank purposes if you get dropped on) can be changed according to what you prefer.
  • The mid slots should be the same as shown, you may elect to use T2 Adaptive Invulnerability Fields and T1 (Meta 0) Capital Capacitor Boosters. If you get dropped, you'll definitely want Shield Boost Amplifiers in place of the Drone Navigation Computers; if you have problems with people messing with your Excavators you may prefer a Warp Disruptor in place of one of the DNCs, and swap in some Drone Damage Amplifiers in the lowslots.
  • When you come into the mining area, drop a mobile depot first, then send the mining drones out. Wait until the Mobile Depot finishes anchoring BEFORE you hit the Industrial Core. The Capital Remote Shield Booster helps you save your mining drones from attack and can be used to help subcap miners tank Mercoxit damage.
  • Tanks 24K DPS as shown, 52K DPS if you use two Shield Boost Amplifiers and pop Improved Blue Pill. Not a Battle Rorqual. Not meant for unsupported areas. Do not use Rorquals in times of high unrest.

Tactics

Avoid using the Rorqual for mining command bursts - command bursts give the pilot a weapons timer, which inhibits his ability to refit off his Mobile Depot.

Notes

• Rorquals cannot enter into High Security Space.
