RELATED UNI-WIKI REFERENCES

In YC 116, Mordu’s Legion intelligence reported to command that the Guristas pirates were developing new and advanced strike craft capabilities using unknown technologies. In response to these reports, Mordu’s Legion accelerated a program of ship development that was itself a response to trends in capsuleer tactics and warfare. The crash development and manufacturing effort resulted in a new family of fast strike ships integrated with one another to provide tactical flexibility and firepower across ship class lines.

The Orthrus is at the core of the Legion’s new strike formations and provides the mercenary pilots with superior projection of high damage missiles while executing rapid attack maneuvers.

Summary

The Orthrus is the faction cruiser for Mordu's Legion, introduced in the Kronos expansion. Like the other Mordu's Legion ships, it has bonuses for the range of tackle modules, for missile damage, and for missile range.

Skills

As the Orthrus is an expensive pirate cruiser, pilots will want to have excellent support skills and fitting skills before they risk their investment in PvP. Navigation support skills, missile supports, and shield tanking skills will be especially important. Both Gallente and Caldari Cruiser skills should be at IV at minimum, and V in both is desirable given the ship's rarity and value.

As a ship conventionally used to kite, the Orthrus also puts a premium on player (not character) skill. Pilots might want to log time kiting in relatively cheaper hulls such as the Osprey Navy Issue to hone their abilities for the Orthrus.

Tactics

Like the other Mordu's Legion ships, the bonuses on the Orthrus combine to make it an excellent kiting ship in PvP combat, able to tackle targets from long ranges and pepper them with missile DPS while staying out of their own tackle range. Fitted with Rapid Light Missile Launchers, it can kill almost anything that can keep up with it, and flee from almost anything that can kill it. Fitted with heavier missiles, it can muster impressive DPS at range.

The Orthrus's main limitations are its relative fragility and its considerable cost.

Notes

In ancient Greek mythology, Orthrus was a two-headed dog eventually killed by Herakles. Orthrus was the brother of Cerberus.
