(I changed the basic magnate fit from being armor tanked to having three nanos because I believe that if you get locked in an exploration frigate, you're pretty much dead anyway, and that it's a much better defense to simply not get locked.) |

Summary
The Magnate is the Amarr Tech 1 exploration and scanning frigate. It is a good ship for rookies or veterans who are getting into probing and don't have the skills for the T2 version, the Anathema. Its bonus to cycle time for hacking, archaeology, and salvaging modules means it can be very effective for looting exploration sites as well.
Skills

- CPU Management 5
- Tough to fit, CPU wise. Add more CPU enhancers if necessary. T2 the nanofibers if money and skills allow.
- Should be able to permarun the MWD. Adjust the nanofibers and relays if so.
- Can fit combat and core scanner probes.
- The hornets *might* save you if you're tackled at a gate, if you deploy them in time and get a jam off.

Small Cargohold Optimization I
- This fit makes the Magnate into a small and agile freighter for fast travel in high-sec, or to use in low-sec to take your PI stuff from the customs office to a station.
- The cargohold max out at 1607.7m3 with this configuration.
- With a Prototype Cloaking Device II you are able to make the MWD/cloaking-trick if the gate is camped out.
Tactics
While not designed for combat, one can still combat fit an exploration frigate to catch unsuspected lone gankers off guard. When fitting for combat, as other races' exploration frigates, the Magnate has a severe shortage of power grid while having a huge CPU reservoir. Plus the ship has no bonus to guns or missiles, it is best to fit missile or rockets to save on power grid for prop and repper. The large CPU left over can then be used to fit a range of damage, resist or ewar mods.
Notes
This vessel qualifies for the University Ship Replacement Program, PYOS, and BYOM.
