Recognizing the necessity for a blaster platform to round out their high-end arsenal, the Federation Navy brought in top-level talent to work on the Hyperion. The result: one of the most lethal and versatile gunboats ever to take to the dark skies. SHIP BONUSES

Summary
The Hyperion is a Tech 1 Gallente battleship. It is bonused for hybrids, but (despite its flavour text in-game) has no bonus preference between railguns or blasters.
The Hyperion is typically not a popular ship: the Megathron has similar firepower and fleet PvP performance backed up with a tracking bonus which helps it apply its damage, while the selectable damage types offered by the Dominix's drones make it more convenient for most PvE combat.
However, the Hyperion is one of the only Gallente ships that can fit an acceptable sniper fit for incursions, and is a popular ship for those starting to fly Incursions whilst they are upskilling for pirate battleships. The Hyperion's active tank bonus also gives it niche strengths in small gang and solo PvP situations where external logistics might not be available.
The Hyperion's 125 Mbit/sec drone bandwidth allows the ship to fly a full flight of Heavy or Sentry drones. Combined with its blaster bonuses, a T2-fitted blaster Hyperion with a fully-skilled pilot firing Void L ammo has the highest paper DPS of any T1 battleship in the game--provided it can get within range of the enemy.
Skills
A pilot stepping into a Hyperion will want to be able to mount Tech 2 tanking modules and will want good support skills, especially gunnery supports and capacitor supports (as active armour tanks and hybrid turrets both use capacitor). Tech 2 large hybrid turrets are not an absolute requirement, but should be a medium-term goal if someone plans to spend much time in hybrid-using battleships.
Tactics
Blaster-fitted Hyperions must face the challenge of all blaster ships: getting into ranges where they can apply blasters' tremendous potential DPS. As it is a battleship and, unlike the Megathron, has no bonus to tracking, the Hyperion pilot must also pay attention to their ability to track smaller targets. Assistance from smaller tackling ships able to web targets and turn targets' MWDs off makes a big difference.
Pilots mounting a local active tank to take advantage of the hull bonus must prepare for the extra cognitive load of managing the tank directly during combat, and should remember that they can overheat their tank to improve its performance in a tight spot.
Notes
In ancient Greek mythology, Hyperion was a mythological precursor deity associated with the Sun. Some writers considered him the father of Helios, while others treated "Helios" and "Hyperion" as names for the same figure.
Like the Tempest, the Hyperion shares its name with a major literary work, in this case an unfinished epic poem by John Keats.
