Force recon ships are the cruiser-class equivalent of covert ops frigates. While not as resilient as combat recon ships, they are nonetheless able to do their job as reconaissance vessels very effectively, due in no small part to their ability to interface with covert ops cloaking devices and set up cynosural fields for incoming capital ships. Summary
Alongside its non cloaking brother, the Huginn, the Rapier is a common feature in almost all shield tanked gangs, prized for its ability to web targets at a greater range than any other ship in the game (40k T2, up to 60k faction). A Loki can also be setup to fill a similar role, but at a much greater cost. Unlike the Huginn, the Rapier can also be fitted with an armor tank due to its four low slots.

- Upgrading to faction webs will significantly increase the range you can web targets. If you're going for initial tackle as well, however, the limited range of the point makes expensive webs unnecessary.

- The purpose of this ship is to web opponents. It can do so at 56 km (73 km when overheating the Federation web) and can approach the target cloaked.
- As fitted, with all skills at V and before boosts, this ship has 19.9 K EHP, flies at 653 m/s (853 m/s with afterburner overheated) and align in 8.6 s with AB on (5.9 s off)
- Damage varies between 263 dps at 13 + 26 km with EMP, and 209 dps at 27 + 26 km with depleted uranium.
- The ship is cap stable.
- A MWD can be used instead of the afterburner, at the cost of a much reduced capacitor life (1 min 20) and larger signature radius (942 m with MWD vs 157 m with AB). The MWD however increase the speed to 1733 m/s. Frood: I don't like that fit. You will be hard pressed on cap with the Invul. Also I think there are too many damage mods in here, the Rapier is primarily a tackler, the damage mods are a bit wasted. I would rather fit for speed/agility/scan res in the lows.

- An armor version. Slower, bigger tank, lower DPS, but has three webs and a target painter.
- As fitted, with all skills at V and before boosts, this ship has 29.2 K EHP, flies at 562 m/s (723 m/s with afterburner overheated) and align in 11.1 s with AB on (8.2 s off)
- Damage varies between 195 dps at 12 + 22 km with EMP, and 163 dps at 24 + 22 km with depleted uranium.
- The ship is cap stable.
- A MWD cannot be fitted without juggling grid requirements, probably dropping some armor.
