Magnate

This Magnate-class frigate is one of the most decoratively designed ship classes in the Amarr Empire, considered to be a pet project for a small, elite group of royal ship engineers for over a decade. The frigate's design has gone through several stages over the past decade, and new models of the Magnate appear every few years. The most recent versions of this ship – the Silver Magnate and the Gold Magnate – debuted as rewards in the Amarr Championships in YC105, though the original Magnate design is still a popular choice among Amarr pilots. Summary
The Magnate is the Amarr Tech 1 exploration and scanning frigate. It is a good ship for rookies or veterans who are getting into probing and don't have the skills for the T2 version, the Anathema. Its bonus to cycle time for hacking, archaeology, and salvaging modules means it can be very effective for looting exploration sites as well. However, as an exploration vessel, the Magnate suffers in comparison to the other racial exploration frigates due to only having 3 mid slots, which limits the modules it can fit for exploring relic and data sites.
Skills
Further information about additional or recommended skills to pilot Magnate for a specific or its common role(s) can be written here.
Fitting
Core Probe Launcher I
Improved Cloaking Device II
Relic Analyzer I
Data Analyzer I
5MN Quad LiF Restrained Microwarpdrive
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Inertial Stabilizers II
Inertial Stabilizers II
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Hornet EC-300 x4
Hobgoblin I x4
Sisters Core Scanner Probe x16
- Prototype Cloaking Device I is a cheaper alternative to Improved Cloaking Device II but reduces speed while cloaked.
- Remove Hornet EC-300 and the cloak for Alpha clone pilot
- Hornet EC-300 needs the most training but is only needed when in hostile space
- Low slots can be modified to pilot preference:
- Inertial Stabilizer provide increased maneuverability at the expense of reducing time to be locked
- Nanofiber Internal Structure provide increased maneuverability and speed at the expense of reduced structure hitpoints
- Can swap in Overdrive Injector for increased speed at the expense of cargo capacity
- Can swap in Warp Core Stabilizer to negate warp disruption/scrambler effects at the expense of shorter targeting range and longer lock times
- Can swap in Expanded Cargohold for increased cargo capacity at the expense of speed and reduced structure hitpoints
Expanded Probe Launcher I
5MN Quad LiF Restrained Microwarpdrive
Scan Acquisition Array I
Faint Scoped Warp Disruptor
Co-Processor II
Co-Processor II
200mm Rolled Tungsten Compact Plates
'Refuge' Adaptive Nano Plating I
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Sisters Combat Scanner Probe x8
Combat Scanner Probe I x16
- You can swap Scan Acquisition Array I for Scan Rangefinding Array I for more scan strength (at the cost of scan speed)
- Sister's Expanded Probe Launcher can be used for additional scan strength but is an expensive module for hero/suicide tackle
- To avoid jumping into the fray take a command position in fleet, toggle "exempt from fleet warp", then warp squad/fleet to the signature scanned down
- Switch one rig to Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade II and replace the other with Small Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer II to keep similar scan strength and increase warp speed to reach the target faster (+1.25 AU/s)
Tactics
While not designed for combat, one can still combat fit an exploration frigate to catch unsuspected lone gankers off guard. When fitting for combat, as other races' exploration frigates, the Magnate has a severe shortage of power grid while having a huge CPU reservoir. Plus the ship has no bonus to guns or missiles, it is best to fit missile or rockets to save on power grid for prop and repper. The large CPU left over can then be used to fit a range of damage, resist or ewar mods.
