The Typhoon is one of the two Minmatar attack battleships, and is bonused for missiles.
The Typhoon (or Phoon) is the Minmatar T1 battleship, which is missile focused. It is especially fast and has a small signature radius for a T1 battleship. Due to its slot layout it’s often armor tanked, further it’s a very flexible hull.

In many ways the Typhoon serves as a counterpart to the Caldari Raven: both are missile battleships with 6 launchers and a rate-of-fire bonus. However, the two differ in two important aspects. First, the Typhoon is usually armor-tanked, due to its extra low slots, while the Raven is usually shield-tanked. And second, where the Raven has a bonus to missile range, the Typhoon has a bonus to missile damage application.
It can be used in big fleets where it is usually fitted with cruise missiles. In this case it directly competes with cruise missile fitted Ravens. While the Ravens have a range bonus, unbonused faction cruise missiles already have a range of nearly 150 km and with a guidance computer with range script this goes up to 180 km, enough range for many scenarios. As the mid slots are not filled with tanking modules, they can be used for various utilities such as target painters or other ewar.
Due to the Typhoon’s good speed and small radius it also has better chances to dissipate incoming damage from capitals, especially if you fit a signature radius suppressor.

This makes the Raven more favored for long-range missile sniping, while the Typhoon is more favored for closer-range brawling with Rapid Heavys or Torpedoes, aided by its generous 5-slot mid rack and 100MBit Drone Bandwidth. That said, a Typhoon can still combine Cruise Missiles and 4 Sentry Drones for significant long-range DPS.
If used solo or small gang, the good number of mid slots comfortably allow for tackle modules and webs. In such a case torpedoes might be fitted and the application bonus of the Typhoon helps a lot. Due to its speed it’s also one of the few T1 battleships which can realistically do a kiting approach. In that case the Typhoon can provide some good DPS in a small gang.

The Typhoon also has an unusually high speed (for a battleship). With high character skills and fitted for speed, it can MWD at about 1.5km/s; with drugs, expensive implants, and the right Command Bursts from fleet-members, this speed can rise above 2km/s, or above 3km/s with heat. Among well-resourced players it sees niche use as an extremely fast small-gang battleship.
The Typhoon can also be used in PvE. It does well in level four missions due to the selectable damage types of missiles. Or in DED sites with a lot of incoming EM/thermal damage due to its armor tank and resist profile. But it lacks the clear progression to a better ship which the Raven has.
