NSC Activities |
One of the most common questions that gets asked when new players join the NSC is, "What ships/modules should I bring with me?"
For life at the NSC, the only true answer is that you may bring any ship that you don't mind potentially losing. This page identifies a list of ships that would definitely be beneficial for campus members to keep in their hangers.
This is in no way a list of mandated ships that everyone must have, nor is it in any way a full list of all ships that would be useful at the NSC. This is purely a hand-rail for those who have never been to the NSC or nullsec before, suggesting how they could best spend their ISK to make full use of all the activities that the campus offers.
First Timers
On your first trip to the campus, we recommend that you come in either
- a fast, cheap frigate, both for ease of navigation through dangerous space, and to allow you to make bookmarks quickly as you travel
- a shuttle; shuttles are fast, hard to catch, and have built-in immunity to the bubbles used to camp gates in nullsec.
The Travelling to the NSC page has fitting and travel advice to get you to the Campus safely.
If a fight happens and you want to join in, some ready-to-fly combat ships are always available from the Flight Deck or from corporation contracts available at the Planet III Intaki Commerce Trading Post (or "Top Station"). Other NSC members can often help with immediate ship needs, too: speak up on comms if you need a hand.
Be warned that PvP is a constant possibility at NSC. Quick-reaction fleets can form at any time. It is advised that you plan ahead and keep a stocked hangar. The Campus Shipping Service makes near daily runs to NSC, and local industrialists happily take orders in the #nsc-market-and-industry channel in the Uni Discord. Doctrine ships may also be available via contract, but supply is not guaranteed.
Reimbursements for T1, Faction, and Doctrine hulls lost in PVP fleets are available under the Ship Replacement Program, within the University's normal rules.
New Members
As members settle in at the NSC, this is the most basic list of ships that campus member might want to keep stocked. These are lower-SP ships intended to get newer players involved in PvP and PvE content.
- Ships from Support Ships: Tackle
- DPS ships from the Armor Assault Frigates doctrine
- An introductory or higher ship from the Nano Kiting Doctrine
- A DPS ship from the RLML Caracal doctrine
- EWAR frigates from the Armor Assault Frigates and RLML Caracal doctrines.
- A Mission/belt ratting cruiser
- Remote Repping Vexor
- A mining barge
- A scanning/exploration frigate
- Some shuttles for quick, bubble-immune travel around nullsec.
Members can prune this list if there are activities they don't intend to try: someone who doesn't want to belt-rat doesn't need a ratting cruiser, for instance.
Established Members
For members making the NSC their full-time home, or for those who are willing to spend a little more money, this list will allow participation in a wider range of PvP fleet roles and chances to take part in some more obscure opportunities that may arise, such as C3 Wormholes and NPC Dreadnoughts.
- A mainline DPS ship from the Nano Kiting Doctrine
- An anti-tackle ship from the Nano Kiting Doctrine
- A ship from the Brawling Cruisers doctrine
- Logi ships from the RLML Caracal and the Armor Assault Frigates doctrine.
- EWAR ships from the Nano Kiting Doctrine
- Dread Vexor
- A gas huffing Venture
- A ship for Harvester Fleets
- A Stealth Bomber
- A Covert Ops ship
- A ramjag from the Support Ships: Tackle
Advanced Members
If you're very familiar with PvP, have high skills, and/or have been around NSC for a while, the following list might fill out your hangar with more advanced, higher-SP roles.
- An Interdictor or even a Heavy Interdictor: these ships offer powerful battlefield control in nullsec battles
- A sniper ship from the Nano Kiting Doctrine
- Advanced ships from the Nano Kiting Doctrine
- Links ships from the Nano Kiting Doctrine, Armor Assault Frigates, and RLML Caracal doctrines.
