The Thunderchild is the EDENCOM battleship. It gets access to a Large Vorton Projector, a special turret that can fire chain lightning at ships.

Despite not having the same shield resistances as the Skybreaker and Stormbringer, the Thunderchild can still field unbelievably thick shields. It is a very slow ship, but it can project lighting out to 144km, and potentially apply as much damage as a HAW Dreadnought, albeit spread across a fleet rather than focused on one target. It is, however, a very expensive ship to train for, construct, and fit, and its use cases are not well understood as many other ships would be considered less ponderous and more efficient at lower prices.

Like all other EDENCOM ships available, the Thunderchild's weapons will deal damage to 10 enemies and each cycle at around 400-500 DPS with max skills. With a high volley of damage and the long range of their Vorton projectors (Even with short range ammo), a fleet of Thunderchilds can easily do any null sec combat sites (if someone drops a bubble on a Rats spawn point). They are not just amazing for ratting, but they can be incredible for gatecamps as they don't need to lock someone to deal damage to them. Their high damage, you can use EM or KN damage types for their weapon, makes them effective for ratting in null sec. They are amazing against all factions, but second to Angel cartel rats. A fleet of 5 Thunderchilds can deal 2000-2500 DPS to each rat in the site, and if you count the chain, they deal more than 20000 dps to the site at a range of more than 40 or 50 km. They have one of the best shield tanks out there with a resist of 20 on EM and TH and 50 on explosive and KN. A single Thunderchild, without command bursts, can reach 175k of EHP with high resists.

– Provost Marshal Kasiha Valkanir

The Thunderchild-class battleship was commissioned from Upwell by the New Eden Common Defense Initiative while the organization was still a counter-Triglavian strategy group headed by Provost Marshal Kasiha Valkanir. When EDENCOM was officially announced as the new central command for the defense of New Eden in YC122, the research and development of a line of ships capable of bearing radical new weaponry was widely rumored following Triglavian raids on Upwell development facilities.

The Upwell Consortium had been working on adapting Arcing Vorton Projector weaponry to a ship-based form since the success of the technology as an anti-fleet weapon on Keepstar Citadels. The first Triglavian invasions in mid-YC121 spurred that effort on even before EDENCOM underwrote the project, providing access to scientists and engineers from the secret weapons programs of the four core empires, and even the SoCT.

The Thunderchild-class was conceived as the striking fist of counter-Triglavian fleets when commissioned by EDENCOM. This battleship is oriented around maximum firepower with high-output, rapid-charging Arcing Vorton Projectors delivering a blizzard of arc strikes against squadrons of enemy ships.

Summary

Vorton Projectors use Missile damage mechanics to determine their damage application. The Thunderchild's weapon has similar damage application to Tech 1 Cruise Missiles, making it most effective against Battleships and requiring application support (Target Painters, Stasis Webifiers) to effectively damage Battlecruisers or below.

Skills

Further information about additional or recommended skills to pilot Thunderchild for a specific or its common role(s) can be written here.

Tactics

Like all other EDENCOM ships available, the Thunderchild's weapons will deal damage to 10 enemies and each cycle at around 400-500 DPS with max skills. With a high volley of damage and the long range of their Vorton projectors (Even with short range ammo), a fleet of Thunderchilds can easily do any null sec combat sites (if someone drops a bubble on a Rats spawn point). They are not just amazing for ratting, but they can be incredible for gatecamps as they don't need to lock someone to deal damage to them.

Notes

The Thunderchild's name fits with the lightning theme of EDENCOM ships, but might also be an allusion to the HMS Thunder Child, a fictional torpedo ram with a brief but notable role in H. G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds.
