The Widow is unique among the other blops in that it receives bonuses to both ECM modules, as well as ECM burst modules. For this reason, along with its lack of tank (if fitted with armor), the Widow is often used in a supporting role in fleets, with other blops being preferred as mainline DPS platforms.
The Widow is the Caldari Black Ops. As a Caldari ship the bonuses for missiles and shield resists are not surprising. The bonus to ECM is unusual for a Black Ops though but in line with the Scorpion's design. It's noteworthy that it also applies to burst jammers because those can be very helpful to shake off tackle if you ever get caught.
With 8 mid and 4 low slots, the Widow can be fitted with a strong active shield tank, for which it sacrifices ECM capabilities, or a weak armour buffer tank if fitted for ECM. This tradeoff, combined with the change to ECM that makes it possible for opponents to target the ship jamming them, means the Widow isn't as desired in blops fleets. Notably, the widow also has the lowest scan resolution of the blops battleships.
The Widow can fit an impressive shield tank due to its resist bonus and eight mid slots. If shield tanked and fitted with torpedoes, its DPS is high and comparable with the Redeemer.
An armor buffer tank used to be a popular choice to open up the mids for a lot jamming modules. While this approach is still sometimes used, it got much less popular because the jammed ship can still target the jamming ship nowadays.
Notably, the Widow has the lowest scan resolution and the highest targeting range of the Black Ops.
Black Ops battleships are designed for infiltration and espionage behind enemy lines. With the use of a short-range jump drive and a portal generator, they are capable of making a special type of jump portal usable only by covert ops vessels. This enables them to stealthily plant reconnaissance and espionage forces in enemy territory. For the final word in clandestine maneuvers, look no further.
Developer: Kaalakiota As befits one of the largest weapons manufacturers in the known world, Kaalakiota's ships are very combat focused. Favoring the traditional Caldari combat strategy, they are designed around a substantial number of weapons systems, especially missile launchers. However, they have rather weak armor and structure, relying more on shields for protection.
